Water Everywhere: THREE STATES C-notes Water can be found in different places, in different states: Gas: (water vapor) Where? In the air (atmosphere) around you and above you

Water Everywhere: THREE STATES C-notes Liquid water: Where? tiny droplets make up clouds, in rivers, lakes, oceans, underground

Water Everywhere: THREE STATES C-notes Solid: Ice Where? clouds at high altitude (20,000 ft. or more) or more are made of ICE CRYSTALS, at the poles, glaciers (on mountains) and snow

___________

Evaporation - the process in which liquid water becomes water vapor (a gas). Water vaporizes from the surfaces of oceans and lakes, from the surface of the land, and from melts in snow fields. Water Cycle Words

Condensation - the process in which water vapor (a gas) in the air turns into liquid water. Condensing water forms clouds in the sky. Water drops that form on the outside of a glass of icy water are condensed water. Water Cycle Words

Transpiration - the process in which some water within plants evaporates into the atmosphere. Water is first absorbed by the plant's roots, then later exits by evaporating through pores in the plant. Water Cycle Words

Precipitation - the process in which water (in the form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail) falls from clouds in the sky. Water Cycle Words

Our atmosphere is made up of a mixture of mostly gases. The molecules and atoms are stacked up above and around us. The pushing of those molecules is what is called “air pressure” Atmosphere and Air Pressure

Air pressure is the force of those molecules pushing on us and everything else. The more molecules there are, the more pressure. Air pressure “pushes” equally on all sides and directions of an object Atmosphere and Air Pressure

Diagrams: Atmosphere and Air Pressure

1- Leaky water bottle: Explain why the water from the bottle with the hole does not come out. Include a diagram in your explanation Diagram

1- Leaky water bottle: Explain why the water from the bottle with the hole does not come out. Include a diagram in your explanation The water is held in by the air pressure around the outside of the bottle. The pressure inside the bottle and outside is equal.
