2 Important Milestones Nepal Submitted Proposal to GAFSP: Sept. 2010 Notification of Award from GAFSP: June 2011 Project Preparation initiated by MoAD: July 2011 Stakeholder consultation in Surkhet: June 7-8, 2012 Project Negotiation: December 2013 Signing of Grant Agreement: April 30, 2013 Project Effectiveness: from date of signing MoU with MoHP and NARC: July 2013 (one of the withdrawal conditions) Start of field level Implementation: FY 2070/71 Technical Assistance Agreement with FAO: January 22, 2014

3 Implementation Status Selection of Village Development Committees (10 VDCs in each district) Baseline survey completed Preparation of guidelines and manuals (technical and financial norms) – Small grants operational guidelines – Farmers Field School – Goat Production program – Rural poultry program Designation of DPSU (DADC), RPSU (RPCC) from MoAD Setting up of PSC and PTCC

4 Implementation Status… Source seed production (54 MT by NARC) Field trials of various crops (169 trials completed) Refresher training of crop technicians and farmers for FFS facilitation completed (34 facilitators trained) 34 Farmers Field Schools in different crops started Goat (57 groups), dairy (15 groups) and poultry (16 groups) interventions initiated Food safety situation analysis study initiated and Nutritional analysis of locally available foods completed Component-wise detailed work plan development and integration FAO_TA team mobilized from April 2014

5 Roles of Farmers Organizations /CSOs Active and meaningful participation of farmers and civil society organization in planning, implementing and monitoring/evaluating project interventions is one on of the principles of this project which will enhance the relevance of technology generated, increase adoption of new technologies and practices, and contribute to sustainability of both technical interventions and the local institutions supporting farmers.

9 Fos Roles in AFSP Recommendations from civil society organizations have been reflected in project design as far as possible. High level project preparation coordination committee headed by Secretary MoAD has representatives from National Peasants’ Coalition and NGO federation. Representation of NPC in Project Steering Committee (PSC), Regional Project Coordination Committee (RPCC) and District Agriculture Development Committee (DADC). FOs will be engaged in participatory monitoring of the project activities.
