This is a self portrait done entirely with torn paper. In this project, one of the most important Elements of Art is value. The different shades of gray are important to show highlights and lower values. It was also important to achieve a life like and accurate appearance. I was fortunate enough to have this piece of art displayed in the L.I.S.D. middle school art show in Lewisville.

This painting is an imitation of a section of Vincent Van Gogh's “Irises”. I like this painting because it is realistic, and greatly resembles the original. Color and value played a big part in the making of this painting. The different shades of green and blue, the shading and highlighting of the flowers make this painting so interesting. I enjoyed working on this painting, because I learned a lot about shading and blending colors. I also improved my painting technique. When we first started working on this project I was worried, because I thought I could never paint like Vincent Van Gogh, but my teacher helped me and after a lot of hard work I began to learn the technique and ended up with an interesting piece of art.

This is an oil pastel painting of some clothes pins. We began this project by drawing household objects by direct observation and contour drawing. We did a series of contour drawings at the beginning of the year and were asked to select our favorite to use for this oil pastel painting. When we first began to work on this project, I was very conscious about how I proceeded, because I had never worked with oil pastels before. But now, after having a lot of practice and help from my teacher, I have become much better at working with them. I really enjoyed working on this project, and I now love painting with oil pastels.

This project was made with chalk. I selected and drew leaves from the oak tree and other plants in my front yard. Highlights were added by using white and lower values were added with dark blue or brown chalk. Because chalk is very messy and difficult to show texture, this project was done on “mi tienes” paper. I learned a lot about shading and highlighting while working on this project. I also learned how to use different colors and shades to make the illusion of texture in the painting.

Art Field Trip! The Arbor Creek eighth grade advanced art class went on a field trip to the Texas Sculpture Garden and the Dallas Museum of Art. While on the field trip the eighth grade students were able to see many different sculptures and paintings by many different artists. This sculpture is titled, “Six Piece Garden” and was done by Texas artist, Tim Glover. It is made of stainless steel and aluminum.

This is one of the paintings by Georgia O'Keeffe that was on display at the Dallas Museum of Art. Georgia O’Keeffe is one of my favorite artists. I admire her work because she is so good at blending colors and turning smaller flowers in to large beautiful pieces of abstract art.

Have no fear! Super Girl is here! This is a project made entirely of tape. No, that is not a typo, it is made of packing tape!
