1 Welcome Activity: Share Program Planning Ideas Use markers and sticky notes to post your ideas on the flip chart paper around the room! 1. Needs identified (areas needing attention, trends, data) 2. Goals 3. Activity ideas (service, educational programs, etc) 4. Project learning activities (field trips, topics, etc,) 5. Resources (speakers, curriculum, sources of donations, etc)

3 Essential Elements Belonging Members greeted/ welcomed when they arrive at project meeting/activity Physical environment is safe and free of hazard or risk Emotional environment is respectful, positive, supportive, inclusive, relaxed, and accepting Volunteer shows sincere interest in the lives of his/her members Mastery Members set goals & make plans for individual & group project experiences Project leaders push youth to take healthy risks, try new things and challenge themselves Project experiences provide members opportunities to talk with others about what they are doing, thinking and learning Independence Members have voice in and influence on decisions around project experiences Members have opportunities to act as project leaders, facilitators, mentors Members partner with adults and share control of project activities Generosity Service to others and community is integrated into project experiences and the input of members in determining service efforts is welcomed & valued Volunteers support and encourage the contributions and accomplishments of members

14 Program Planning Time----Teams: 1. Begin with either needs assessment (Step #1 of the footprints) or by looking at goals (step #3 of the footprints). Then choose a tool to get started! OR 2. Identify the next steps you will take as a group to begin to do information gathering/needs assessment and your program planning. Program Planning Time----Individuals: What steps will you take to pull a small group together for planning within your club, group or committee— 1. How you will share the information and tools from this training ? 2. How do you suggest your group begin doing needs assessment or goal setting? 3. What tools do you think might be most helpful to your group?
