2 There’s nothing quite like a neighborhood. Let’s look at how neighborhoods have changed through the years.

3 This is an early neighborhood, built about 900 years ago in Colorado. Early Puebloan people built this neighborhood. What do you think this neighborhood is made out of?

4 Here is a closer view of the buildings in the neighborhood What do you think this neighborhood is made out of? Why? About how many people do you think lived in this neighborhood? Mesa Verde, Colorado

5 Some neighborhoods were easy to build, take down, move, and then build again. This is the type of home used by many tribes in North America. Do you know what it is called? What is it made of? How did these neighborhoods affect the local area? About how many people lived in each of these homes?

6 Here are some hints to help answer the questions about these neighborhoods: What are they made of? Ute encampment, early 1900’s Were roads needed? Nez Perce near Pendleton, Oregon

15 Which homes and neighborhoods are permanent? Which are temporary, or easily taken down and moved?

16 What sorts of homes and neighborhoods do you think change the surrounding area the most when they are built? Which change the area the least? What are the advantages of changing the surrounding area? What are the disadvantages of changing the surrounding area? Are these changes permanent or temporary?
