Volgens de legende die pas in de middeleeuwen ontstond, heette hij oorspronkelijk Reprobus en hoorde hij tot een aanzienlijke Cananese familie. Volgens deze legende was hij een reus die in dienst wilde treden van de machtigste heer. Toen hij merkte dat de machtige koning voor wie hij werkte bang was voor de duivel, bood hij zijn diensten aan de duivel aan. Maar toen hij zag dat de duivel angst toonde voor het beeld van de gekruisigde Christus, ging hij deze zoeken. Een kluizenaar vertelde hem over Christus en raadde hem aan pelgrims en kluizenaars over de gevaarlijke rivier te dragen om Christus welgevallig te zijn. Christoffel neemt deze taak op zich. Op zekere dag wordt hij door een kind verzocht hem de rivier over te brengen maar dra blijkt dat het kind als een onmogelijke last op zijn schouders drukt zodat hij slechts node de overkant haalt. Aan de oever maakt het kind zich bekend als Jezus Christus. (1) (2). 92 July 2002Project presentation REGNET 92 Musei Capitolini - Rome The Musei Capitolinis of Rome are the most ancient public collection (1471) in modern world and one of the most important Italian cultural institution. The Musei Capitolini's collections are preserved in the three buildings delimiting Piazza del Campidoglio: Tabularium, the Palazzo Nuovo and the Palazzo dei Conservatori. The collections are of archaeological and historic-artistic kind, closely linked to the city of Rome and its history, and most of the exhibits come from the city itself. The works date back to different period: from 5 th century BC to Modern Age. Anyway, the most representative and famous masterpieces are those which date back to ancient Roman Age. 93 July 2002Project presentation REGNET 93 The Silverworks Museum is located in Pitti Palace, Florence; it has been sited in the ground floor rooms, originally the Grand Ducal summer apartment, since 1919. The basic core of the collection has Medici origin, originally gathered in the palace in the Via Larga (now Via Cavour), where Cosimo the Elder begun a large and diverse assembly of Works of Art. 97 July 2002Project presentation REGNET 97 Tour dHorizon: 10 objects representing the various types collected in the Silverworks Museum Jewels: 13 objects (jewels and treasures) belonged to the collection that the last Medici, Anna Maria Luisa, Electrees Palatine(1667 -1743), left to Florence in her will. Topic Map: Vases: 10 objects. The Museum houses a precious and rich variety of vases and goblets of different provenance. Portraits: 11 objects portraying the Medicis. The Silverworks Museums fortune is intrinsically bound to the history of this family, the works commissioned by them and their passion for collecting.
