4 © 2013 Providence Public School District 4 Introduction and Overview The Situation The Challenge The Opportunity PPSD is committed to preparing all students for success in their chosen colleges and careers. Beginning with the Class of 2014, students must score a level 2 or higher on NECAP in order to graduate. Despite our best efforts, we are falling short of our goal. Close to 65% of the Class of 2014 may be in jeopardy of not graduating on time. We must work quickly to prepare our juniors for graduation, while also building awareness among all of our students. There is good news—we have invested in programs and interventions to support our students through graduation. We must work together to ensure that our students graduate college- and career-ready. Everyone must be part of the solution—students, families, community members and educators.

Extraordinary Oversight: Promote the continuous use of data to inform decision-making and allow for heightened accountability at all levels of the organization. Policy Development: Investigate alternative policies that maintain high expectations for student learning within the context of new standards and assessments.
