Strolling around Tyczyn

Where to find us? Heading south from Rzeszów, in a few kilometres’ distance there is the borderline between two geographical provinces: The Northern Podkarpacie and The Western Carpathian Mountains. This is the area where Tyczyn district is situated.

Tyczyn was founded by king Casimir the Great as a royal town. In 1368 the king issued the foundation charter of Tyczyn and donated it to Bartold Tyczner. Since the 14th century the Pilecki family were the owners of Tyczyn. Since the 17th century it belonged to the Branicki family, and then it was passed on to the Wodzicki family.

Entering the town from Rzeszów you can see a monument of Jesus Christ, and going further, on the right, there is the building of Lower Secondary School.

Behind the school building there is a complex consisting of a palace and park. The palace was built between 1862 and 1869 by count Ludwik Wodzicki. Nowadays it houses a Secondary School. In the past, probably in the Pilecki time already, there stood a manor house and a farm on this spot.

It is beautiful day and night, all year round.

The interior of the building is beautiful as well. There is a secret passage: you go into a wardrobe on the first ground and go down to the cellar. According to the legend, there is an underpass between this cellar and the palace in Łańcut.

In the town centre there is the parochial church, ( The Holy Trinity and St. Catharine church) built probably in the middle of the 15th century. The parish was established at the time of town foundation.

This late–Baroque church has three naves. Some original gothic elements remain in the chancel).

The church is built of stone and brick. It has a very rich late- Baroque interior, mainly from the 18th century.

Heading towards the historic cemetery, you can stop by the monument built to commemorate John Paul II’ visit to nearby Rzeszów.

Let’s go back to the town centre. The magnificent building of Municipal Council is located here, with a clock in the tower. The clock strikes hours and plays a tune to remind the residents of the passing time. By this tune, the students know when the next break is.

Strolling towards the north-west of the town you approach the building of Higher College of Social Economics. This building once housed Magistrates’ court, built in 1900-1905. After World War II it was the building of a Primary School, then a kindergarten, and finally, in 1998, after a major renovation it was passed to HCSE.

To visit the new premises of HCSE you need to go back, and through the park. It is situated near the palace.

Thank you.
