4 Basic Facts  Officially known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad  Celebrated from 27 July to 12 August 2012  London will become the first city to host the Olympic Games three times  205 nations and 12 500 athletes participating

5 Sports Sports  Features 26 sports and 300 different events  IOC voted to drop baseball and softball from the 2012 Games  Boxing is the only Summer Olympic sport that does not include events for women

6 Sporting Venues  Mixture of new venues, existing facilities and temporary buildings  Some of the venues include the London Olympic Stadium and Wembley Stadium  Some business properties had to be bought

7 The Olympic Village  Total of 17 320 beds and 16m² of floor space for each athlete  3300 apartments with TV, internet access and a private courtyard  The dining hall will cater for 5500 people at a time

8 Financing  The costs of the Olympic Games are separate from those for building the venues and infrastructure  The Olympic Games are privately funded, the venues are are built for public money  Total cost - £9.345 billion

9 Logo  Designed by Wolff Olins, unveiled on 4 June 2007 and cost £400,000  First time that the same logo is to be used for both the Olympic and Paralympic games.  80% of people gave the logo the lowest possible rating
