2. Why I Like This Book I like the book Schooled because the story is told from the points of view of many different characters. This really helps me understand what each character is going through during the story. I also like that Capricorn changes, from being clueless at the beginning of the book to loving television and pizza like his friends in the end.

Summary The book Schooled is about a thirteen year old boy named Capricorn Anderson who, after living on a sixties farm commune with his grandmother Rain for his whole life, moves into the new confusing world of the modern middle school. There, he is bullied by the popular crowd who tries to make his life miserable by giving him the “privilege” of being eighth grade president. Instead of having nervous breakdowns and going insane like previous presidents though, Cap keeps his cool and ends up enraging his tormentors, and in the end, he teaches everyone a lesson they will never forget.

4. Excerpt From the Book On page 20, Capricorn is speaking to his Grandmother Rain while she is at the hospital……. “I don’t like it out there,” I complained. “It’s too crowded. People dress funny; they talk too fast; and all they’re interested in is things! Cell phones and iPods and Game Boys and Starbucks. What’s a starbuck?”

6. About the Author Gordon Korman was born on October 23, 1963 in Montreal, Quebec in Canada. Korman unexpectedly wrote his first book, This Can’t be Happening at MacDonald Hall at the age of 12. He currently lives in Long Island, New York with his wife and three kids. He has written over 60 books. Korman will be visiting Sherman, Texas (North of Dallas) for a Book Festival and School Visit on January 24-25, 2013.
