A public awareness campaign designed to encourage economic and financial literacy An initiative of businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits and government agencies An opportunity to inform, educate and assist the citizens of Nebraska to be “money smart”

4 How Did it Get Started? Has its origins in Chicago and has been implemented in Kearney Started in Nebraska in 2008 by the Nebraska Financial Education Coalition – A network of organizations dedicated to improved economic and financial literacy – Goal: help Nebraskans better manage their personal finances

5 How Do I Get Involved? An organization that actively participates during Money Smart Week: – Provides education materials, instructors or a seminar for consumers – Provides facilities to host events, sponsor events or share promotional materials – Leverages resources to publicly support Money Smart Week – No cost or ongoing obligation

6 What are My Next Steps to Get Involved in Money Smart Week? 1.Learn More. – To get involved, please go to www.MoneySmartNebraska.org to learn more. www.MoneySmartNebraska.org 2.Plan. – Begin to plan an event to occur during Money Smart Week. – Should be free and open to the public and cannot sell products and services. 3.Add Your Event – Submit your Money Smart Week Event information by clicking “Add an Event” at www.MoneySmartNebraska.org.www.MoneySmartNebraska.org

7 4.Market and Promote. – Get the word out about your event. – Use some of the free resources online at www.MoneySmartNebraska.org as promotional tools. www.MoneySmartNebraska.org 5.Have your Event. – Conduct your event for your target audiences. – Have fun and remember that financial education is essential for all Nebraskans. 6.Evaluate. – Complete and return the information we’ll request – attendance, surveys, photos, media clips and samples of promotional materials

9 Important Dates to Remember September 30 – Events added by this date will be shared with committees who help promote the week to media partners and others. October 15-November 7 – Promote your events to your key audiences, using some of the free tools and materials available for you at www.MoneySmartNebraska.org. www.MoneySmartNebraska.org ?????– Join us for a Money Smart Week promotional tailgate party before the Husker game in Lincoln. November 7-13 – Get out and participate in Money Smart Week activities! November 13-30 – Complete evaluations, send back participant evaluations and share best practices, photos and media clips.
