4 Tackers The highest and first priority Helping the new States (Tas, WA, NSW and Qld) become effective and self sufficient ASAP Overachieving the target numbers to make up for 2011-12 shortfall

5 Sailability Continuing the culture change Inclusion at clubs Pathway based Volunteer Training Establishing a measurement system

6 Discover Sailing – other components Courses – assist States with implementation Experience – publish more guidelines Days – assist States who will run one this year Crewing – establish and promote matching service Communications – see the balance of this presentation ….its about helping clubs make changes and implementing Discover sailing eg appointing hosts Picking low hanging fruit Broad promotion – comes next year

11 gemba Recommendations for Clubs Improve the image of Clubs – make them more welcoming and inclusive Help reduce the entry costs – provide club boats for example, and promote crewing opportunities. Discover Sailing Experiences Help reduce the initial commitment – for example introductory, flexible, concessional membership Increase the emphasis on relaxed social racing - rather than just competition Reduce the time commitment – shorter forms of participation are what a time poor community wants Improve the information and communication – make information more available and appropriate to newcomers and make sure the pathways are clear

12 Clubs Adoption of Discover Sailing Is the way we currently present our club to new participants successful? Have we seriously considered and adopted the Sailing Pathway? Is our current external signage and website attracting and servicing new visitors and will we display the Discover Sailing logo? Is the clubs profile on MyClub up to date and accurate with regard to the services, programs and facilities offered? This is where the Discover Sailing website will take them. Are we going to have & promote Discover Sailing Hosts?

13 Clubs Adoption of Discover Sailing Cont. Will we participate in Discover Sailing Days? an Australia wide Discover Sailing Day on Sunday 27 October 2013 State based initiatives in 2012 Our own Discover Sailing Days to suit us Do we want to deliver the Discover Sailing Learn to Sail Programs in either Dinghies or Keelboats (if not already)? Are we going to offer the Discover Sailing Experience? Do we want to significantly increase the number of juniors and adopt Tackers ( if not already ) Do we want to be inclusive and adopt Sailability ? Is our Crew matching service well promoted and supported ?

14 Sailing’s Pathway – the backbone Have clubs considered and adopted the Sailing Pathway ? What levels on the Pathway does the club offer ? Introductory Racing ? Club Coaching ? Green Fleet Guidelines for juniors See Yachting Australia website under Participation for details

15 Yachting Australia Support with low hanging fruit – local area marketing Merchandise for Discover Sailing Hosts eg polo shirts In YA Online Shop Now Mobile Display Unit for Boatshows and Events Available now via State Associations Promotional Material e.g. banners, posters, decals, flags etc In YA Online Shop in September

16 2013-14 Promote to Wider Public Confidence in service delivery at Clubs Can we secure funding for media? Sponsors / Partners?

17 Summary The focus of Yachting Australia and the State Associations in 2012-13 is in helping clubs 1.Implement Tackers 2.Embrace Sailability – inclusive clubs, pathway based 3.Implement gemba’s Recommendations 4.Adopting the Discover Sailing Program 5.Collecting the low hanging fruit 1.Friends and families of members 2.People who participate but are not yet members 3.People living in the local area interested in the Discovery
