COUNTRY OF NEPAL 8

Facts About Nepal Eight of the ten tallest mountains in the world are in Nepal. It is a land-locked country surrounded by China and India. 30 million people live in Nepal. Nepal was a Hindu Kingdom for centuries. Last year the monarchy was abolished and Nepal became a secular Republic. 9

Facts About Nepal 7,000-10,000 children, under the age of 5 die every year in western Nepal due to lack of clean drinking water. Per capita monthly income is $35 or $420 annually. 55% of all Nepal is illiterate. 72% of females are illiterate. Persecution is still very prevalent. Two months ago a bomb blast in the church killed three. 50 years ago, there were only a handful of Christians. Today 1,000,000 follow Christ. 10

What is the City of Joy? City of Joy begins in a village where there are people but no infrastructure and no jobs, clean water, education or medical facilities. Our goal is to turn these villages into thriving, productive and contributing communities. A full-size community will serve approximately 20,000 people. 11

Model Community Description The first “Model Community" will be outside the city limits of Kathmandu – the capital city. We will build the Model, then use it as a guideline to establish the full-size communities. The elevation of the Model City of Joy is 4000 ft. It is 2 hours away from the International Airport in Kathmandu, at the foothills of the Himalayas. 12

Where is the Model City of Joy? The red star indicates the proposed location for the model outside of Kathmandu. 13

Why Build City of Joy? We want to transform lives and establish communities of equal opportunity by: Creating Jobs through Vocational Training Providing Clean Drinking Water Providing Education for Children and Adults Helping Start Small Businesses Providing Preventive Health Care Building Safe Havens for Worship 14

We will use Nepal’s national resources as much as possible to empower and elevate national workers. We will invite local volunteers and global experts to teach business principles and ethics. Implementation will be through Nepalese ownership and requiring direct engagement and accountability from the residents of City of Joy. Who Will Build? 15

Who Will Build? This is a “hands-on implementation” project, not one of outside control. The City is required, by the government of Nepal, to be under local ownership. Investors can provide management, training, supervision and venture capital. 16
