August 2012 You Were Here May 2013 Promoted to Next Grade May 2013 Retained in Current Grade Ask yourself these two questions: “Where Am I Now?” “Where will I be in May 2013?”

For Those Students which have worked hard in TERM 1 and TERM 2 and achieved grades no lower than a “B” in all subjects Congratulations and Keep up the Good Work!!!

Students Making “C’s Turn in all of your assignments Ask questions if you don’t understand Stop settling for doing “just enough” to get by Take advantage of tutoring before or after school Adjust your priorities (Academics first) PARTICIPATE IN REMEDIATION!!!

RTI (Response to Intervention) Overview Response to Intervention (RTI) is at the core of school improvement-- to make sure all students are reached, especially those whose Academic skills or Behaviors are not up to Expectations.

RTI PYRAMID 4 Tier Model Beginning from the Bottom moving toward the Top The more Assistance needed for the student, the more they move up the pyramid

TIER 1: This is where all students begin, normal everyday class

TIER 2: Interventions such as pull-out small groups, Math Connections, Tutoring, Remediation, etc.

TIER 3: SST (Student Support Team) – Teachers implement interventions during classes with goals of improvement. Monthly meeting held (parents and teachers in attendance) to discuss overall progress and recommendations for moving forward.

The goal of the RTI pyramid is to implement the interventions, see improvement, and move the student back down the pyramid toward TIER 1 However, some students may need additional assistance with their academics or behavior after TIER 3; therefore, testing will be completed to see if the student needs to be escalated to TIER 4

TIER 4: Students who failed to show any improvement in their academic studies or behavior during TIER 3 will be tested for additional assistance, and possibly placed in the Special Education Program

D’s and F’s If D’s and F’s have been common on your report card, here are some suggestions: Take responsibility for your own destiny Improve your Attendance (Tardies included) – you cannot afford to miss any instructional time Take advantage of ALL tutoring opportunities (Before or After School) Ask Questions if you do not understand Complete all assignments Adjust your priorities (Academics first) Attend REMEDIATION!!!

Time Management Suggestions for All Students (Revisited) SET GOALS! Set a goal – for a day, a week, a month or even a year. Decide what tasks must be done in order to achieve your goal. Estimate how long it will take to complete each task. Allow enough time to complete the task correctly. MAKE A DAILY “TO DO” LIST! Write down all task and activities that you intend to accomplish for the day. Rate the items on your list according to their importance. (save less important items for another day) Cross off each task when completed. You’ll be able to see how much you have accomplished. OBSERVE HOW YOU SPEND YOUR TIME! Note how you waste time, spend time on low priority tasks, have trouble getting started, or tend to be inefficient. Notice when you have the most energy, when you are most alert, when you get tired and irritable and what distracts you from high priority activities. This can be helpful when setting up a daily schedule so you will stay on task. MAKE A MASTER SCHEDULE OF FIXED ACTIVITIES FOR THE WEEK! A master schedule for the week tells you what time is “committed”. This includes sleeping, dressing, eating, travel time, classes, work, chores, homework, activities that you partake in, friends and family. This is your fixed schedule. It includes things that you must do. You only need to write it down once, and then make changes as needed. The master schedule will help you identify hours, which are “free,” that you have control over.

Time Management Suggestions for All Students (Revisited) continued KEEP A RUNNING LIST OF ASSIGNMENTS! Keep track of what needs to be done soon. It will be helpful to note any due dates, the time required and the importance of the task. Ex. science report – how long will it take? DON’T PROCRASTINATE! Postponing work on a project makes you feel pressured for time. Schedule it now and do it! You will feel good when you have completed the task. PREVENT INTERRUPTIONS! Interruptions cause you to lose time. Avoid places where you will be easily interrupted. Ask that you not be interrupted for a certain length of time. MAKE USE OF SMALL AMOUNTS OF TIME! Even 15 or 30 minutes of time are enough to accomplish some tasks or parts of a large project. REWARD YOURSELF FOR SUCCESS!!! After successfully completing a priority task, treat yourself to something you enjoy.

Remediation is a program designed by LMS Administration and the teacher staff in an effort to assist those students who are not meeting expectations in their academic studies Please speak with your teachers for more information regarding dates and times. What is Remediation?

The second half is underway…. Term 2 report cards go home this week Remember “Your Destiny is controlled only by you” “Work Hard, Finish Strong!!
