4 If you want to…Build up Council Membership  Become a Membership Advocate in the Member-Reach- A-Member Campaign This program will launch fall, 2008 and will call upon a network of membership advocates to reach out to early career educators of color and invite them to become active in the Council. 8 If you want to…Publish or Review Content Distributed by or through NCTE  Write for the NCTE books program or an NCTE journal; to find out more contact Senior Editor Kurt Austin (kaustin@ncte.org;)NCTE books programNCTE journalkaustin@ncte.org  Write for ReadWriteThink.org This site hosts more than a million visitors a month. It features free, peer-reviewed, lesson plans and student “interactives” (digital tools or activities). Lesson/interactive authors receive $300 for each submission that clears peer review and is posted to the site. At the more formal end of the spectrum, a few members are being asked to edit/add content to specific pages on the NCTE site. All members will soon be able to respond by commenting, filling in polls or surveys or blogging on the NCTE site. 9 If you want to… Submit and present a proposal at an NCTE convention or meeting or review proposals  Submit and present a proposal at the NCTE convention CCCC convention, or a meeting/workshop. Each year, 500 – 700 proposal sessions are presented at the NCTE convention. Calls for proposals are made in November, with a January deadline date. To submit, respond to the paper or online call for proposals issued each November (NCTE) or in March/April (CCCC). Submit and present a proposal  Review convention proposals As many as 100 Council members participate in proposal review. They are coordinated by section chairs at each level, as well as chairs of the Rainbow Strand, LGBT strand, and research strand. To get involved, indicate on the annual volunteer participation survey that you are interested in reviewing or notify your section chair or the NCTE President-Elect. Review convention proposals
