2 A Brief Program Overview  Students are taking, or have completed, a course from the 6 areas below

3 CAS Creativity, Action, Service IB cares about the education of the whole student 50 hours required in each area, a minimum of 3 activities per area, and must meet CAS Learning Outcomes Students meet with their CAS Counsellors Recording of hours through ManageBac Great question for your child: “How many hours of CAS do you have left to do?”

4 Theory of Knowledge  Course is complete, extensions taking place in other classes  2 major components: the presentation and essay  Essay to be completed this year, presentation completed last year  Essay questions are out on ManageBac  Great question for your child: “What question were you thinking of doing for ToK?”

5 Extended Essay Students should have begun working on this last year 3500-4000 word paper on a topic of their choosing…can be from any discipline that they are in First draft of the extended essay is due Sept. 30 th Students should be accessing their supervisor Final draft will be due October 31 st Great question for your child: “How far along are you on your extended essay?|

6 This year’s courses… IB2 goes fast…students are finished IB classes in April Final IB assignments are being done and are due at different points in the year, usually late February or early March Added significance and pressure because of university applications IB exams take place from May 2 nd – 22 nd at Carleton University

7 Exams and IB Fees The IB Annual Fee and Volunteer sheet will go home the first week of October Students will register for exams in mid- October One-time exam registration fee of $175 (if they did not take an exam last year) + $120 per exam taken Exam fees are normally collected in January

8 IB Marks and What They Mean Percentage grades reported to university are based on IB Predicted Grades The established conversions across Ontario are as follows: 7 = 96-100%; 6 = 90-95%; 5 = 80-89%; 4 = 70-79%; 3 = 60-69%; 2 = 50-59% 1 = Failing Condition

10 Applying to University  Students can start applying to university in early December once OUAC numbers come out  Anyone applying out of province needs to do so directly to the university itself, not through OUAC  All IB students apply to university with 2 sets of credentials: their IB predicted scores and their OSSD percentage marks  Talk to them early about university applications

11 What Universities Want… What universities want (6 X 4U/M courses with some pre-requisites) Engineering: ENG4U, SCH4U, SPH4U, MHF4U, MCV4U, + 1 other Sciences: ENG4U, 2 of 3 Sciences, MHF4U, MCV4U, + 1 other Commerce: ENG4U, MHF4U, MCV4U, + 3 other Liberal Arts: ENG4U, + 5 others Many IB students have 8 + 4U and 4M marks to choose from Visit university sessions
