4 Mission of Pennsylvania Campus Compact Our mission is to enhance the capacity of campuses and communities to educate students for civic engagement to advance a healthy, just and democratic society. We accomplish this by leveraging resources, providing educational and professional development opportunities, individual coaching, and leading in emerging civic engagement trends. 4

Allowable Volunteering or coordinating volunteers in the program focus area Federal or State Work-Study positions in focus area Unpaid internships Service-learning (if direct service component is less than 20% of total grade) Unallowable Entirely administrative work Volunteering for a for-profit organization Sleeping time or free time on overnight experiences Paid internships or practicum Service-learning (if direct service component is more than 21% of grade) 10

11 Key Prohibited Activities on AmeriCorps Time Direct or grassroots lobbying Engaging in partisan politics Assisting, promoting or deterring union organizing Engaging in religious instruction Providing a direct benefit for a for-profit entity Fundraising for AmeriCorps programs NOTE: These activities are also prohibited on perceived AmeriCorps time (i.e. social media, etc). Also, this is not an exhaustive list. A comprehensive list is available upon request. 11

12 Roles & Expectations 12

13 Campus Administrators will… Recruit, orient, and supervise Community Fellows; Vet each Community Fellow; Disseminate, collect, and manage all member paperwork; Monitor AmeriCorps Community Fellows; Maintain consistent and timely communication with PACC staff and each AmeriCorps Community Fellow; Evaluate members on a semi-annual basis and complete semi-annual progress reports for PACC. 13

14 Community Fellows will… Be committed to completing all service requirements; Correctly complete all required paperwork; Complete hour logs on a daily or weekly basis; Manage their own time in order to complete the program by the required exit date; Maintain consistent and timely communication with their campus administrator throughout the year. 14

15 Pennsylvania Campus Compact will… Disseminate blank copies of all member paperwork to campus administrators, collect completed, correct member paperwork, and maintain member files; Enroll AmeriCorps Community Fellows in the eGrants system and manage all functions related to official AmeriCorps enrollment; Provide campuses with access to the online reporting system for tracking and signing member hours. Provide step-by-step guides, an in-person training, and web-based tutorials on the online system; Update campus administrators and members on a monthly basis with regard to member progress towards completing their 300 or 450 hours of service; Maintain consistent communication with campus administrators. 16

Recruitment Update Unfilled slots will be forfeited on September 28, 2012. 18

19 Recruitment Update Process By August 10, 2012 Second Rolling Enrollment through September 1, 2012 PACC will send a Recruitment Update Form (Google Docs) Opportunity to relinquish positions or request more Update on recruitment plans By September 1, 2012 Recruitment Update Due to PACC Rolling Recruitment based on updated recruitment plans September 28, 2012 Unfilled Positions will be Forfeited Requests for Fall Enrollments (new or exisiting) available on September 29, 2012 19

20 Member Recruitment & Member Eligibility 20

21 Member Recruitment Responsibility of each campus administrator Begin now! When recruiting members, remember to: Clearly outline expectations for members from the start Vet and screen potential members Develop a waiting list system for alternates 21

22 Recruitment Ideas from Veteran Campuses Partner with existing programs: Act 101 or Upward Bound Service-oriented student organizations Work with financial aid and utilize work-study Education Department Use technology & social media Seek referrals from fac/staff, and community partners Vet students through an interview process Set GPA & campus judicial requirements Avoid recruiting freshman, unless a structured program 22

23 Member Eligibility Must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents F-1 or J-1 visa holders are not eligible Must be 17 years of age Must have obtained a high school diploma Campus Administrators verify member eligibility, based on these criteria, and may be asked to produce supporting documentation Must be successfully exited from current term if enrolling in another term 23

24 Limits on AmeriCorps Service A person can only: Serve four (4) terms in AmeriCorps*State & National Receive the value* of two (2) full-time education awards *For 2012-2013, $11,100.00 24

55 Tips on Enrollment Process Identify one main point of contact for process Responsibility of the campus administrator to ensure that paperwork is: Complete, correct, and on-time Priority will be given to complete, correct packets Keep a copy of member file at your office Do not wait until the last minute 55
