10. Orchestra Trivia
The composer Jean (pronounced: Yahn) Sibelius was born on December 8, 1865 in Finland, 9 days before the world premiere of Franz Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony on December 17, 1865 in Vienna, Austria!
The composer Charles H. H. Parry was composer Gustav Holst’s teacher when Holst was a student at the Royal College of Music. Incidentally Parry was appointed Director at the Royal College in 1893, the same year that the music that would be used in the Karelia Suite was composed!
