2 What is PBIS? Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports
At Koontz Intermediate, we want to recognize Positive Behavior choices, Intervene and Support when students need help making good decisions.

Koontz’s PBIS is based on four character traits: Leadership Empathy and Respect Attitude Discipline of Self

6 Before School Leadership Empathy and Respect Attitude
Enter school quietly and immediately Go eat or to the gym When dismissed, go directly to your classroom Empathy and Respect Use good manners Talk only to your neighbor Eat quietly Leave areas cleaner than when you found them Attitude If eating breakfast: do so quickly, clear your space, and then go to the gym Follow all directions quickly & respectfully Discipline of Self Make healthy choices Line up quickly and quietly Volume: 0, 1, 2

7 In the Classroom Leadership Do your best all of the time
Own your choices (good and bad) Empathy and Respect Communicate kindly Use teamwork Listen actively, eyes on speaker Respect others and all materials Attitude Come to class with materials and assignments ready Stay positive Discipline of Self Stay on task (Engage your brain and participate) Use agenda for planning and organization Volume: 0, 1, 2

8 In the Hallways and Commons
Leadership Go directly to destination Model leadership Respect displayed work Communicate safety issues to staff immediately Empathy and Respect Keep voices at a whisper or stay silent Keep feet on floor (away from wall) Take care of water fountains/sinks Yield to others Keep hallways clean Attitude Accept your place in line Walk directly behind the person in front of you 6th Grade: Get all items from lockers and close doors quietly Discipline of Self Keep hands and feet to yourself Stay in your assigned space Walk, don’t jump Travel in a single file line and walk on the right. Model & encourage appropriate behavior Report inappropriate behavior Empathy and Respect Keep surfaces clean and put trash in the trash can Clean up soap and water messes Attitude Take care of needs quickly and quietly, then return to class Discipline of Self Wait for your turn Flush toilet and wash hands Shake hands over sink Volume: 0, 1

Bring or pay for all items Go through the line only once Whisper or talk quietly Empathy and Respect Include others, be kind Use fork, chew with mouth closed Use “Please” and “Thank You” Attitude Leave spaces cleaner than when you found them Discipline of Self Make healthy choices Get items, then sit down quickly Focus on eating, then talk Volume: 0, 1, 2

Be a positive role model Practice good sportsmanship Report unsafe events to staff Empathy and Respect Include others Play safely Work through conflicts with respect Attitude Be safe on stairs and railings Use equipment properly Be active and have fun! Major Referrals Consequence determined by the administration Parent contact Verbal Correction/apology Loss of Privileges/Walking Recess Silent/Working Lunch Bus or School Suspension Parent Escort for school event Behavior Contract Empathy Training Community Service/Restitution Functional Behavioral Assessment After School Detention Threat Assessment/Safety Plan Repetitive Negative Behaviors Chronic Level 2 behavior (despite various interventions) Intimidation/Verbal threats Stealing Bullying and Harassment Vandalism Verbal abuse/directed profanity Possession of weapons Fighting Possession or under the influence of illegal substance

19 Supports Positive Reinforcement
Teachers can reward students with a paper bracelet who are showing positive character traits, being an involved learner, or any other recognition which the teacher deems appropriate. If a student receives a bracelet they may choose either a Lunch Package- Enjoy Free seating at lunch with any class within your lunch block Electronic Package-15 minutes at teacher approval Students will turn in bracelet to teacher once they have received their privileges for the weekly drawing. On Winning Wednesday one bracelet will be chosen for a special prize.

20 Supports Positive Reinforcement
Students will have the opportunity to earn a Leader Card Students must earn at least 6 points Points will be awarded based on : No Suspensions Cards will be awarded at end of each 9 weeks grading period (the end of Oct, mid Jan, end of Mar. and the end of May).

21 Leader Cards will be redeemed for:
Extra Recess Mixers Special Events Other Fun Activities Free Seating lunch
