5 MRSA Most often caused by not using proper hygiene and/or sharing clothes and towels Easiest way to avoid MRSA is to not let anyone wear your clothes, use your towels and practice proper hygiene at all times Can only be diagnosed by a physician and you can’t return to play until cleared by a physician or Miss Twiford Let Miss Twiford know of any unusual sores or spots that develop on your body for diagnosis

6 Hazing Zero tolerance policy on hazing
Contact me immediately if this occurs No place for it in high school athletics There is also no need for profanity in high school athletics by coaches or players. Coaches know the standard set at Hopewell and players need to refrain from profanity at all times “What you do, you allow.”

7 Hopewell/CMS Athletic Eligibility Requirements
You must currently be enrolled in a CMS school. You must have been promoted to the next grade level. You must live within the attendance boundaries of your home school. You must have at least a 2.0 GPA from the previous semester, exception for current 9th graders for 1st semester only.

8 YOU MUST… pass a minimum course load from the previous semester
have been in attendance at least 85% of the time from the previous semester, per CMS, not NCHSAA currently be a full time student (Seniors 4 and pass 3) have a current physical and proof of insurance on file Provide 2 different types of proof of address

9 YOU MUST… Sign both a student and parent pledge
Sign both a student and parent concussion awareness form Not turn 19 before 8-1 of current school year Attend this meeting Complete your athletic eligibility within 8 consecutive semesters

10 NCHSAA Regulations Falsification of information in terms of eligibility will result in student athletes being declared ineligible for a period of 365 days Student must not be convicted of a felony in this or any other state, or be adjudicated as a delinquent for an offense that would be a felony if committed by an adult in this or any other state

11 NCHSAA Regulations A student may not play, practice or be on the roster if ineligible There shall be no Sunday practice in any sport. This includes the assembling of athletes for purposes of viewing film, chalk talk, or other materials pertaining to the coaching of the team Student may not dress for a game/scrimmage when he/she is not eligible to participate or serving an ejection

12 Sportsmanship Everyone involved with an athletic contest should exhibit good sportsmanship at all times If ejected for fighting or other unsporting action, the athlete/coach must complete the NFHS Sportsmanship course before being eligible to return

13 Gfeller-Waller Law An athlete with a suspected concussion can’t return to play until cleared by a licensed medical physician Return to play form must be presented prior to practicing and/or playing again Athletes, parents, coaches and all involved must receive education regarding signs and symptoms of concussions “When in doubt, sit them out.”

Hopewell High School will ensure academic and athletic success for ALL students.  Hopewell High School will also provide an array of opportunities athletically that will enhance personal growth; focus on lifelong good health; and a distinction on leadership.  (Participation in high school athletics is a privilege, not a right)

Hopewell athletics play a vital role within the educational community.  Students who participate in athletics develop a sense of tradition, pride and integrity, which has been a staple of our community and will be the path of our children and their children. Hopewell High School student-athletes continue to enhance their education through teamwork, discipline and leadership.  In addition, their commitment to becoming the best Titan provides them with passion for their community; great respect; and love for their teammates. 

16 Hopewell Expectations
Zero tolerance policy - We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to the use of alcohol and other drugs. If caught/arrested/suspended, on or off campus at any time, the athlete will be removed from the team and lose his/her eligibility for the remainder of the school year or 365. Dress code - all athletes are expected to dress appropriately at all times.

Social Media - athletes are cautioned to watch what they post on social media sites. Please see Student/Parent handbook on for more info

20 Participation Fees Coaches are not to accept participation fees
Check or money order made out to Hopewell High School I will gladly accept your checks today Can be paid in main office Monday only, then must be paid online

21 Participation Fees You are encouraged to pay online at hopewell Are due by Saturday, August 15th If not paid, removed from team until payment received

22 Waiver Process The fee waiver form MUST be attached to your letter from the child/nutrition office and turned in to your coach or myself, letter must be for current school year
