2 INTERCLUB WITH DEERWOOD CLUB On March 28, we held our March interclub with the Deerwood Club. The Beaches club was represented by Leigh Roberts, Hugh Patterson, John Bates and Bill Montgomery. A most interesting presentation was given by Builders Care, the Northeast Florida Builders Association's community service initiative. This group serves Jacksonville's indigent-primarily elderly and disabled-with restorations of their deteriorating houses. Bill Montgomery Corky Borders delivered a short memorial speech about Ish Brant, our club founder and most celebrated member. Thanks to Mr. Brant’s original efforts, our club has been able to do hundreds of projects helping children and the community for the last 60 years. Among many accomplishments over the years, Mr. Brant was assistant principal and head football coach at Fletcher High School, three-term mayor of Neptune Beach, and Superintendent of Duval County Schools. He was a positive influence and role model for countless students. After his death in 2003, The Ish Brant Scholarship was created, and is awarded every year to a deserving student at Fletcher High School. We will always remember Ish Brant. He had a smile and warm handshake for everyone. Mar 28 -- Anders School, Head Start John Bates Southwinds Head Start Gary Crumley You’re over the hill when instead of walking over and changing the channel, you spend 15 minutes looking for the remote. Jay Amber, Corky Borders, and John Bates assisted in the distribution of water, bagels, and coffee, at the start from the Sea Turtle Inn. At the finish, we distributed sandwiches. John Bates Community Service Teacher of the Year Award (March) Back To School With B.E.A.M (July) Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors (November) Penman Road Clean Up (2nd Sat of month) Beaches Habitat For Humanity TEACHER RECOGNITION DAY Heavenly Father: We stand before You with the hands, minds, and hearts that You gave us. Help us to put our hands at Your service through the work of our club. Help our minds to understand the best ways to help those less fortunate. And we ask that You help all our hearts to inspire the actions our minds conceive. And now bless this food to our use and us to Your service.
