Kieran bowled superbly at Norwich Wanderers taking 2 for 20 from his 8 overs and also helped the side pick up two valuable draws by batting out the overs at Wanderers and Stow. The 8-aside tournament comprised 2 groups of 4 with each team playing all the teams in their group and the top 2 teams playing in the final. Our U/10 side were in a group with Rocklands, Topcroft B & Topcroft C. While most participants in other teams tended to be at the higher age range of U/10 (players need to be 9 or under on 1 st September 2010), the Lowestoft team comprised Jack & Lewis (aged 10); Biff& Cameron (aged 8); Harry (aged 7) and Dom, Adam & George (aged 6). However, despite this, the team brilliantly led by Jack managed to gain 2 victories in their group games and narrowly miss out on a place in the final when they lost a very close game to eventual finalists Rocklands. Stand out performers were Captain Jack (batting, bowling & leadership), Lewis’s fantastic innings against Rocklands, Harry & Biff’s brilliant bowling and an amazing slide pick up and throw from the boundary to effect a run out against Topcroft B from George (made truly astounding as we haven’t covered that yet in the Kwik cricket group!!). We would like to thank our hosts Topcroft for inviting us and for the way they looked after us throughout the tournament. Lowestoft Player of the Tournament: Jack (“Smash It”) Under 10 side narrowly miss out on Final Back in the day In 1854 A succession of top cricketers joined the club including former Lancashire and Nottinghamshire batsman Vincent Tinley who was the clubs professional for 9 seasons. Tinley was a fine all-rounder who was a prolific batsman/wicket keeper who had also bowled slow right arm “Under-arm” for his first class counties. Other top cricketers during this era included Cambridge Blues Benjamin Preston, and the Rev. Thomas Curtis. These excellent players of their day enabled Lowestoft to keep in the forefront of Suffolk cricket until 1876.
