WARM-UP WHAT TYPE OF FUNCTIONS ARE EACH OF THESE? 1).75 X 2) 3X 2 – 2 3) 3X -.75 Homework out

Mean, median, mode, range Mean: the average of a set of data.  Add all numbers in the data set & divide by the total # Median: The middle # of the data set.  Order all the numbers from least to greatest. Find the middle #.  If there are two middle numbers, find the average of the two middle numbers. Mode: The # that occurs the most often in a data set. Range: the difference between the smallest & largest # in the data set.

Box & whisker plots A graph that displays the highest & lowest quarters of data as whiskers, the middle two quarters of the data as a box, & the median. Quartiles: Each quarter of the graph which represents ¼ or 25% of the data.

To draw a box & whisker plot 1. Order numbers in the data set from least to greatest 2. Find the median of the entire data set  The median of the entire data set is called the 2 nd quartile in a box & whisker plot 3. Find the median of the lower half of the data set  The median of the lower half of the data set is called the 1 st quartile 4. Find the median of the upper half of the data set  The median of the upper half of the data set is called the 3 rd quartile 5. Draw a box connecting the 1 st, 2 nd, & 3 rd quartiles 6. Draw whiskers from the box to the lowest & highest numbers in the data set.
