5 Question: What regions in the world were dominate forces throughout history? Why? Hypothesize about why some countries have accumulated great riches over time while other remained historically poor. Guns, Germs, and Steel

7 Basic characteristics of civilization: Cities Government Religion Social structure Writing Art….why is art included? Why are these characteristics important to building a society?

9 We are a Modern World History course but it is important to understand the development of civilizations and review significant civilizations in our history. How did they emerge, what did they leave behind, and why important. Each table will be given an early civilization that is within your textbook. (There might be groups with two) Use the “basic characteristics of a civilization” to describe your civilization. Also, ask yourself what did they contribute to our history. Make sure you explain this as well on your poster. The homework portion of the assignment is to bring in something today (an image or an objective) that we still use that your civilization contributed.
