THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE Book One in the Chronicles of Narnia BY C.S LEWIS Wonder Works FAMILY BOOKS

2 CHAPTER I Lucy Looks into a Wardrobe
The time was World War 2. There were 4 children from London that were sent to live with an old professor in the country to be safe from the bombings Their names were Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter The kids realized that the old house would hold all sorts of secrets and would be a fun place to live

3 CHAPTER I Lucy Looks into a Wardrobe
The youngest, Lucy, was scared until she found the wardrobe on the 3rd floor She went inside the doors and then discovered it was a secret door to another world Inside the wardrobe, Lucy discovered woods, and snow and darkness

4 CHAPTER 2 What Lucy Found There
A hoofed creature named Mr. Tumnus greeted her and got her out of the cold. They had tea and cakes, and became friends But then the faun started to cry, as he was supposed to kidnap any humans for the White Witch. Mr. Tumnus told Lucy the White Witch was the Queen over the land called Narnia. The White Witch/Queen made it always winter, but never Christmas.

5 CHAPTER 2 What Lucy Found There
But Mr. Tumnus just couldn’t kidnap Lucy for the Witch, as he liked her so. Instead, he told her to go home, to the land of Spare Oom, and War Drobe. She left him to go back to the old house, and no one had missed her, because no time had taken place.

6 CHAPTER 3 Edmund and the Wardrobe
Lucy went back and told her brothers and sister all about the land of Narnia. They didn’t believe her and thought her very silly They looked into the wardrobe but only found old coats. She was sad, but went back to see the wardrobe again, and went inside it. Edmund followed her and got in too. He shouted to her, and she didn’t answer. So he walked on, and then heard bells.

7 CHAPTER 4 Turkish Delight
A beautiful sleigh with reindeer and a regal lady appeared. She screamed STOP! She had seen Edmund and wanted to know who he was. She told him to address her as her Majesty, as she was the Queen of Narnia. He told her he was Edmund. She wanted to know if he was a Son of Adam? He didn’t understand- and then she wanted to know how he came to this land?

8 CHAPTER 4 Turkish Delight
The Queen seemed very angry at Edmund Then suddenly, she seemed nice. She gave him her coat, and magically fed him candy and a warm drink. She kept asking him questions about his family She then told him she wanted to meet his brother and sisters, but that it must be a secret.

9 CHAPTER 4 Turkish Delight
She told him that she wanted him to be the next king of Narnia. The Queen told him to go home, and bring his siblings back to her. He left her and found Lucy, who was delighted that he was there. They went back to tell the others, but Edmund knew he would be in trouble with the Queen if he said he actually had been to Narnia.

10 CHAPTER 5 Back on this side of the Door
Lucy was excited to tell Susan and Peter that Edmund had seen Narnia, too. Edmund pretended he was just playing along with Lucy and there was no Narnia. Peter and Susan went to the Professor to ask him about the whole thing

11 CHAPTER 5 Back on this side of the Door
He asked if they knew Lucy or Edmund to be the most truthful. They both felt Lucy was the most honest. The Professor did say that his house was most odd and maybe there really was a way into another land, like Narnia, through a secret passage, like the wardrobe.

12 CHAPTER 6 Into the Forest
There were always tourists visiting the professor’s old house. The children went to hide from them and all of them went into the wardrobe. Suddenly, they were all in Narnia. They put on the coats to stay warm.

13 CHAPTER 6 Into the Forest
Lucy was very excited to have them all in the new wonderful land. Edmund spoke of the lamppost, and they all realized he had also visited before. They let Lucy be the leader, but Edmund was put out as he had been caught lying about being there before. Lucy led the way to Mr. Tumnus’ house. His house was a wreck and he was gone.

14 CHAPTER 6 Into the Forest
A note said that Mr. Tumnus was under arrest and was awaiting trial for high treason against the Queen. They asked Lucy about the Queen, and she told them she really was a terrible witch. Susan wanted to go back but Lucy convinced them to help her friend out of his imprisonment.

15 CHAPTER 6 Into the Forest
Suddenly there was a little robin, who got them to follow him through the woods. Edmund asked Peter if he thought the robin may actually be a spy and maybe trapping them in the woods.

16 CHAPTER 7 A Day with the Beavers
The robin disappeared, but then they saw a small animal hiding. The animal was a beaver and it was signaling to them to be very quiet. The beaver asked if they were Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve? They said yes, they were.

17 CHAPTER 7 A Day with the Beavers
The beaver showed them the handkerchief Lucy had given Mr. Tumnus. He had given it to the beaver to make sure that they would seek out and met the humans. The beaver said that Aslan is on the move- suddenly everything became less scary.

18 CHAPTER 7 A Day with the Beavers
The children had no idea who or what Aslan was, but suddenly, they felt safer and more trusting of the beavers. They went to the beavers home at the river. Edmund saw another river farther away, and thought of the Queen. And of her promise to make him King, if he brought his siblings to her. They helped the missus beaver to make dinner, and they all ate a great meal of fish and potatoes.

19 CHAPTER 8 What Happened After Dinner
Finally, Mr. Beaver told them what had happened to Mr. Tumnus- he had been dragged to the White Witch’s house, and was probably to be turned into a stone statue, just like all her other enemies The Beaver said there was no point in them trying to save him, but now that Aslan was on the move, maybe he could save them. The Beaver said “Spring was in the air”.

20 CHAPTER 8 What Happened After Dinner
“Who is Aslan?” asked Susan. The beaver said he was the King, the Lord of the whole wood. It was Aslan who brought the warmth of spring. The beaver said Aslan would make sure that the White Queen would be rendered powerless.

21 CHAPTER 8 What Happened After Dinner
The beaver said the children would meet Aslan, the Lion King, the next day, at the stone table. He said that the Witch was actually from Adam’s first wife, Lilith, who was part Jinn and part giant.

22 CHAPTER 8 What Happened After Dinner
That is why she was always looking for humans- she knows if 2 sons of Adam and 2 daughters of Eve were to come to Narnia, they would sit on the 4 thrones in her castle. When this happens, then her reign as Queen and her life would be over They suddenly realized Edmund was missing. The snow was falling so hard, they decided they had to find him.

23 CHAPTER 8 What Happened After Dinner
They had to leave the dam and run from the White Witch as fast as they could. The Beaver had another idea- he realized that Edmund had gone to her and was about to betray them all. The children also realized Edmund had met the Witch before, but still felt they had to try to find him.

24 CHAPTER 8 What Happened After Dinner
They tried to figure out when Edmund left- did he hear about the stone table in the woods and Aslan the Lion King? If so, then the beavers knew she would be on her way to their house immediately.

25 CHAPTER 9 In the Witch’s House
Edmund had heard the conversation about the White Witch. He realized that if he didn’t leave would never get his favorite candy- Turkish Delight and would never be a prince and later the King. He felt all the talk about how evil the witch was just couldn’t be true, as she had been so nice to him. He traveled through the snow and dark and it was cold, so he thought about all the wonderful things he could do when he was king.

26 CHAPTER 9 In the Witch’s House
Edmund got colder and wetter and he blamed his brother Peter for all of it Edmund also blamed Peter for being mean to him. He reached the palace, and found all these stone animals- a lion, a dwarf. He went to the stone lion, thinking it was Aslan, and that the witch had already turned him to stone. He wasn’t afraid of the stone statue.

27 CHAPTER 9 In the Witch’s House
He then saw a stone wolf, which really wasn’t a statue. But then the wolf awoke and scared him. The guard wolf told the Queen that Edmund was there and wanted to let her know where his brother and sisters were in Narnia. He also told her what he had heard about Aslan. She got quite upset. The dwarf went to get the sleigh and they all went off to find the children right away

28 CHAPTER I0 The Spell begins to Break
The beavers and the other children packed supplies and left the dam. They stayed in the valleys and walked and walked and walked. Then they found a hole, and a secret dam to stay in for the night. They awoke in the morning, hearing bells. They thought it was the witches sleigh, but it wasn’t- it was Father Christmas, and he was bringing them presents and springtime.

29 CHAPTER I0 The Spell begins to Break
Father Christmas gave everyone a present: Mrs. Beaver got a new sewing machine; Mr. Beaver a finished dam. He gave Peter a shield and a sword. Susan was given a bow and arrows and Lucy a glass vial with magic healing liquid inside. He told them they would need them to battle the White Witch

30 CHAPTER I1 Aslan is Nearer
Edmund was with the Witch, in her sleigh. She didn’t speak to him and he was scared. He asked for more Turkish delight candy, and got only stale bread. She ordered the wolves to go to the Beavers house and kill them.

31 CHAPTER I1 Aslan is Nearer
She then ordered her driver to take them to the river crossing to get to the humans before they reached the stone table. Faster ! Faster! She yelled at her reindeer. Edmund was scared and wished he was with the others. He was really hungry and tired.

32 CHAPTER I1 Aslan is Nearer
They came across a merry party of 2 satyrs, a dwarf and an old dog-fox, who were eating and celebrating. The Witch Queen was furious! Who gave you this food! They replied, Father Christmas. She acused of lying to her! She turned them into stone, even as Edmund begged her not to. She then slapped Edmund and told him not to beg for mercy for traitors!

33 CHAPTER I1 Aslan is Nearer
The snow began to melt, the sun began to shine, and the river started to flow. Birds began to sing, the trees started to leaf out. Spring was coming. The witches winter had been destroyed, Aslan was near.

34 CHAPTER I2 Peter’s First Battle
The other children realized they were warm and took off their coats. They saw crocus blooming and suddenly it seemed like June. They didn’t know this came about because of Aslan; they did know the witches spells cast endless winter. They realized the spell was broken. They kept walking with the beavers.

35 CHAPTER I2 Peter’s First Battle
They saw the sea in the distance, in front they say an open hill area, with a large stone table and pillars around it. They heard music, and saw the setting sun.

36 CHAPTER I2 Peter’s First Battle
Then they saw Aslan- surrounded by Dryads and Naiads, centuars, unicorns, a pelican, an eagle and a dog, and next to Aslan stood two leopards, one with his crown, one with his standard The children and the beavers stood in awe, not knowing what to do next. They approached him, and he welcomed them.

37 CHAPTER I2 Peter’s First Battle
He asked where was the fourth child? Mr. Beaver told him that he had betrayed them by going to the White Witch. Peter told Aslan that it was his fault that Edmund had left them, as he had been angry with him about Lucy. Lucy asked Aslan if he could save Edmund. Aslan said he would, but it would take a lot of effort on all of their parts. Aslan then took Peter to show him the castle where he was to be made King.

38 CHAPTER I2 Peter’s First Battle
They heard a horn, and knew something was wrong. A wolf had come into the wood with them and had chased Susan up the tree. Peter knew he had to strike the wolf- and so he did with his sword from Father Christmas. Another wolf was nearby and ran away to go back to the White Witch. Aslan ordered the eagle and Centaurs to follow it to find the Witch.

39 CHAPTER I3 Deep Magic from the Dawn of Time
Edmund was doomed. The witch knew if she got rid of him, then the prophecy would not be fulfilled. They tied him up to a tree, and sharpened a knife. She summoned all her nasty creatures to prepare for the fight. Suddenly, confusion everywhere- Edmund fainted. The Unicorns, the deer and birds rescued Edmund. The Witch and dwarf disappeared. They hid as an old tree stump Edmund and the rescue party left to go back to Aslan at the Stone table.

40 CHAPTER I3 Deep Magic from the Dawn of Time
Edmund and Aslan became friends. Edmund told his siblings he was sorry that he had betrayed them. Then the dwarf appeared, and told Aslan the Queen wished to speak with him. Aslan agreed as long as the Queen left her magic wand behind in the great oak His leopards went to secure the area for the meeting. The Queen came to the clearing The Queen told Aslan of Edmund the traitor. He reminded her that he was not a traitor to her.

41 CHAPTER I3 Deep Magic from the Dawn of Time
The witch reminded Aslan of the Deep Magic. This Magic says that every traitor belongs to her and that she has the right to kill the traitor. She reminded him unless he turned over the traitor to her, all of Narnia would perish in fire and water. Susan was horrified, begging Aslan to do something. Aslan told everyone to go back as he needed to speak privately with the Queen. He got her to renounce the claim on Edmund by striking a secret deal with her.

42 CHAPTER I4 The Triumph of the Witch
Aslan told everyone they must leave the camp. They left for another camp area. Aslan told Peter of the Witch’s planned seige. He advised Peter to prepare for battle. He spoke as if he would not be there to help As they approached the new camp, Aslan seemed sad. Peter worried about where they finally camped thinking the witch could attack at night.

43 CHAPTER I4 The Triumph of the Witch
Aslan assured him that she would not attack that night. Susan and Lucy could not sleep thinking about what might happen. They found Aslan awake as well. He was walking away from the camp They followed him to the stone table. He saw them, and told them not to be seen, no matter what happened. He said farewell to them

44 CHAPTER I4 The Triumph of the Witch
They cried, and then saw the horrible creatures capture Aslan . The witch laughed! They cut his mane, tie him up on the stone table. The witch tortured him some more. She said, “Who will stop me from killing the child after all? Not you, fool!” The girls covered their eyes and cried as the witch killed Aslan.

45 CHAPTER I5 Deeper Magic from Before the Dawn of Time
Lucy and Susan heard the witch scream to her evil troops, “Let’s get them now!” They hid in the brush as all her ghouls ran past them. Then, it was silent again. They went to Aslan’s body. They cried til they could cry no more.

46 CHAPTER I5 Deeper Magic from Before the Dawn of Time
They took off the muzzle on Aslan’s face. They tried to get all the ropes off him. Suddenly, hundreds of little mice crawled all, untying the ropes. The sun was rising, the mice ran off. The birds began to sing as dawn approached. They walked to keep warm, but couldn’t leave Aslans body.

47 CHAPTER I5 Deeper Magic from Before the Dawn of Time
There was a loud crashing sound. The stone table was broken and Aslan was gone. Aslan was alive and he licked their heads. He said that the deep magic, before even time, that saved him from the death.

48 CHAPTER I5 Deeper Magic from Before the Dawn of Time
He seemed strong and ready for battle. They rode on his back and flew to the Queens home.

49 CHAPTER I6 What happened about the Statues
The Queen’s home was filled with statues of every kind. Aslan breathed life on each one and they all came alive, even the big giant. He even revived Mr. Tumnus. Every one cheered and everyone helped with the impending battle against the witch.

50 CHAPTER I5 Deeper Magic from Before the Dawn of Time
The new group of fighters joined the others and found them already battling the Witch’s creatures. Stone statues littered the battlefield, and the witch was fighting with a stone knife against Peter. Aslan roared and flung himself at the witch. They rolled and fought, and the new group rushed to their rescue.

51 CHAPTER I7 The Hunting of the White Stag
The battle was over in minutes. The witch’s army gave up after they saw she was dead. Peter gave Edmund all the credit for the victory. Edmund had broken her wand, so no more fighters could be turned to stone Many creatures were hurt. Lucy used her magic potion from Father Christmas to restore them to health. Aslan Knighted Edmund for his bravery.

52 CHAPTER I7 The Hunting of the White Stag
The next morning they went to the castle and relaxed and ate and slept The following day was solemn indeed. The children were throned and made Kings and Queens of Narnia. They celebrated all day. Aslan slipped away.

53 CHAPTER I7 The Hunting of the White Stag
Aslan left them to do their job and he his job in the wild. They ruled Narnia for many years, cleaning it up of all the nasty creatures leftover from the White Witch’s rule. They made good laws, kept the peace and grew up to be wonderful rulers.

54 CHAPTER I7 The Hunting of the White Stag
Then, one day, Mr. Tumnus, came to them, and told them he knew that the White Stag had come to Narnia. He said the White Stag would grant them wishes if they caught him. King Peter and Edmund, Queen Lucy and Susan, began to search for the White Stag. The Stag gave them quite a chase.

55 CHAPTER I7 The Hunting of the White Stag
They jumped off their horses, to go into the thicket to get to the stag In the thicket they came across a lamp post They all felt as if they knew this lamp post from before and that it would change their lives forever They started to turn back, away from the lamp post in fear They realized if they left in fear they would be ashamed, so they pressed on in search of the White Stag

56 CHAPTER I7 The Hunting of the White Stag
They went through the brush, and the trees and suddenly they were amongst coats and furs. They tumbled out of the wardrobe, same age as when they went in, and not one minute had passed The tourists were just down the hall No one would have known the story had they not felt compelled to tell the Professor about his missing coats

57 CHAPTER I7 The Hunting of the White Stag
The Professor believed them, but told them they would never get back to Narnia through the wardrobe again- they could never use the same route twice. He told them to remember Narnia and being kings and queens, but don’t speak to others about it, unless they have had those type of adventures themselves He said they would know who the others by the look in their eyes. Once a king in Narnia, always a King!
