1 CANADA is in the Northern hemisphere, in North America.

2 CANADA is next to the United States of America ( USA)
CANADA is next to the United States of America ( USA) . Alaska is one of the American states.

3 CANADA is the second largest country in the world ( after Russia)
CANADA is the second largest country in the world ( after Russia). There are 10 provinces and 3 territories.

4 This is the Canadian flag : red and white with a maple leaf.

5 Canada is part of the Commonwealth: an organisation of 53 countries from the former British empire.This is its flag

6 Queen Elisabeth II is the head of the Commonwealth : the members are free but united by language, culture and economical exch anges. In Canada there isn’t a president but there’s a Prime Minister, Stephen Harper.

7 In Canada , they use the Canadian dollar ( coins and banknotes with Queen Elisabeth II ). But the « one cent » coin is no longer used now.

Castlegar is a small city ( there are about 7,900 inhabitants). It’s in the province of British Columbia ,a Western region. There are the Rocky Mountains and the Coast Mountains.

There are many wooden houses because it’s a mountainous region. It’s very cold in Winter : it snows a lot !

13 There are wild animals in British Columbia, for example the badger , the beaver or the chipmunk.

14 Look at these beautiful animals living in the forests: the deer , the caribou or the moose.

15 In the mountains or near rivers, you can see black bears or grizzly bears ! They are big and dangerous !

16 These wild animals are more dangerous : the red fox, the grey wolf, the lynx and the cougar .

17 In Canada they love sports , for example ice hockey

18 In British Columbia, you can go kayaking, horse back riding or rafting .

19 But you can also go hiking in the mountains or why not use a snow mobile .
