1 Velocity –Time Graphs

2 Velocity - time graphs A straight line slope shows an accelerating object!!!! The steeper the slope the greater the acceleration!

3 Objects slowing down! If the line slopes downwards it is decelerating!
It has a deceleration of -2 m/s2 . We use a minus sign to show that an object is decelerating! Click for facts!

4 OBJECTS MOVING AT CONSTANT SPEED
A flat, horizontal line shows an object moving at a constant speed!!!! This object has a constant speed of 5 m/s Click for facts!

5 QUESTION TIME! 1. What is the boy racer’s speed after
a) 1s b) 5s c) 9 s 2. What type of motion does the boy racer have between a) 0s and 2s b) 2s and 8s c) 8s and 9s 3. Calculate the acceleration of the Boy racer between 0s and 2s. 4. What is the boys racer’s deceleration between 8 and 9 seconds? Boffin Task! Calculate the total distance the boy racer travelled!

6 The area under a velocity-time graph
If you calculate the area under a velocity time graph it will tell us the distance that the object has travelled!!!!!! Area = base x height Area = 6 x 5 = 30 m distance travelled = 30m Area = 1/2 x base x height Area = 1/2 x 10 x 20 =100m distance travelled = 100m Click for facts!

7 What have we learnt? Write down as much as you can about the motion of the getaway car in each section of the graph! How far away has the car stopped?
