4 An Undeniable Global Trend
2010 2016 694M 2.8B 874M 1.1B Ethernet devices Wi-Fi devices Source: iSuppli A WORLD GOING WI-FI Annual Unit Shipments Environmental Systems Lighting Projectors Ultrabooks Tablets Wi-Fi Powers the Post-PC Era Mobile data plans drive user demand for Wi-Fi No spectrum fees for Wi-Fi service providers Delivers over 775MHz of free spectrum Low cost/bit in wireless data capacity WHY WI-FI? WiFi has taken over from Ethernet as the dominant networking technology that powers the post PC era. This year there will be over 1 billion wifi devices shipped, well over the shipment of Ethernet devices, fueling the enterprise and service provider WLAN markets. Not only is wifi the networking standard for home and enterprise. WiFi is the ideal complement to 3G, 4G and LTE for public access. Smartphone and tablet users want wifi service not only because it’s frequently faster than 3G, the termination of unlimited data plans as well as new shared data plans mean that users are going to seek out WiFi for videos and other bandwidth intensive apps. Increasingly, mobile data subscribers will demand wifi service from their providers. From operators perspective, WiFi is a very affordable solution to their capacity problem. It requires no spectrum licensing fees. WiFi access points are much lower cost than their cellular counterparts because of volume leverage from widespread home and enterprise adoption. Capacity-wise, WiFi operates at 300 to 450 Mbps today and ac, the next generation wifi standard promises to scale up to gigabit speeds. WiFi delivers the lowest $ per bit among wireless technologies and will continue to do so in the near foreseeable future. 4 INTRO TO RUCKUS WIRELESS RUCKUS IPO ROADSHOW
