Call to Order was by Williamsburg President Bob Spencer, Invocation was given by Rev. Dr. Jim Henry, US Pledge of Allegiance by President Ken Wood, and SAR pledge by Vice President Bruce Meyer. Guests were presented and then dinner was served. VASSAR Vice President Ed Truslow inducted new compatriots Matthew Ray Ruckman (Patriot John Ruckman) and Robert Macnider Davis III(Patriot Sanders Bush) from the Williamsburg Chapter, Williamsburg Chapter President, Bob Spencer presented Supplementals to Paul Snyder (5) and John Moseley (1), and Forgotten Patriot Award to John Moseley(Patriot Elizabeth Marriott). President Ken Wood of Thomas Nelson, Jr. Chapter presented Everett Guest Speaker: Everett Feldt a Certificate of Appreciation for volunteering at the Raymond Bottom USO at PHF. President Bob Spencer Williamsburg Chapter presented the VASSAR Chapter Service Medal to Ron Lossi, Registrar, Rev. Jim Henry, Chaplain, and the NSSAR Distinguished Service Medal to VASSAR 3rd Vice-President Ed Truslow. Guest Speaker, Ed Truslow spoke on “State of the Sons of the American Revolution”. Mr. Truslow spoke on past happenings of VASSR, 32,000+ members, various committees – youth, veterans, patriot outreach, memorials, helping USO (53 years support to Hampton Veterans Administration). Ed Truslow, 3 rd Vice President VASSAR installed the 2014 officers of Thomas Nelson, Jr. Chapter and Williamsburg Chapter. Benediction was given by Chaplain Gary Hodges, Thomas Nelson, JR. Chapter. VA Hospital, Hampton, Building 148 April 7 th, 2014, 7:00pm *Still Need Help* Meet at the Domiciliary at 6:30pm to set up for the games and refreshments. Bingo starts at 7:00pm and plays for one hour or until our money ($50) is gone, whichever comes first. We clean up and leave by 8:15pm. To do a respectable job takes a minimum crew of four, but the more volunteers, the higher our Stark score. If you can arrive earlier and/or stay later to visit with the long-term patients in Bldg. 146, that’s even better! Vacant Committees need your help. Interested in Pitching In? Col. Charles A. Wynder, Thomas Nelson Jr. Chapter's Best Citizen of the Year, won VASSAR's 2013 Best Citizen of the Year Contest. This is the 3rd year in a row that the Thomas Nelson Jr. Chapter's nominee has won this award. He will now compete in the NSSAR Best Citizen of the Year Contest He is pictured with Mr. Roscoe Roberts and his niece Judge Angela Roberts. This is the 3rd year in a row that the Thomas Nelson,Jr. Chapter has won this award. Thomas Nelson,Jr. Chapter Treasurer Rick Elofson was inducted as the 2014 VASSAR Treasurer along with other VASSAR Officers during the 124th VASSAR Annual Meeting in Richmond on the 15th of February. NSSAR President General Joe Dooley attended the Observance of the 233rd Anniversary of the Battle of Cowpens. Compatriot Raup passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 1,2014 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 828 King's Hwy, Suffolk, VA 23432. Following the service the family will receive friends at St, John's Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Robert's name to St. John's Episcopal Church. Obituary

Thanks, also, to those compatriots who are continuing their invaluable service in their respective offices. On January 11 at the joint meeting of the Thomas Nelson, Jr. and Williamsburg Chapters, the 2014 officers were inducted by Third Vice President Ed Truslow. After the induction of the officers Vice President Truslow spoke on the state of the SAR at the national, state and chapter levels. Compatriots Walt Neville, Rick Elofson and myself represented our chapter at the 124 th VASSAR Annual Meeting in Richmond in which Rick, our chapter treasurer was installed again as the Virginia Society Treasurer. Please join me in congratulating Compatriot Elofson. Also, Col. Charles A. Wynder of Williamsburg, our chapter's nominee for Good Citizen of the Year, was selected as the VASSAR Best Citizen of the Year for 2013. He was presented with a certificate, trophy and a $500 award. During the VASSAR Annual Meeting Awards Program our chapter received the following awards. Chapter Excellence Award for the third consecutive year Best Medium Chapter for the third consecutive year Sponsor of the Best Citizen of the Year Award for the third consecutive year. History Day Support Award for the third consecutive year Support of the NSSAR Essay Contest Participant in St. George Tucker Grave Marking Participant in Joint Revolutionary War and War of 1812 Plaque Dedication 100% Participation in the Flag Program for the third consecutive year Star for the Grave Marking Streamer. The chapter also received streamer awards for participating in wreath layings at the following events during 2013. 232nd Anniversary of the Battle of Cowpens Chesnee, SC 232nd Anniversary of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse Greensboro, NC 237th Anniversary of the Halifax Resolves Halifax, NC NSSAR and NSDAR Celebration of the Battle of Great Bridge Chesapeake, VA I would like to see more members involved in our programs and events in 2014.
