1 Boston! Seventh Grade Parent Meeting January 4, 2012 Middle School Cafeteria

2 Health Concerns Medications -All medication (including over-the-counter meds such as Tylenol) must be handed in to Mrs. Chaputian prior to the trip. -Medical forms are needed in order to distribute any medication on the trip. Please contact us with any dietary restrictions your child may have.

3 4 Itineraries! All three of the seventh grade teams are going to Boston together. To accommodate the number of students and their varying interests, we have provided the choice of 4 different itineraries

4 Some attractions students will visit based on their itineraries are: The Museum of Science The Freedom Trail The Boston Museum of Fine Arts Fenway Park Itinerary: Thursday, May 31 A.M.

5 Some other attractions students will visit are: Itinerary: Thursday, May 31 P.M. IMAX Theater Codzilla The Aquarium

6 Social Studies Connection Massachusetts can be seen as a microcosm of America as it has come of age from a British colony to an American nation. At Plimoth Planation, we will be visiting a recreation of the Plymouth Colony, the Mayflower, and a Wampnoag village as it would have looked in the 1620s.

7 Social Studies Connection Along Boston’s Freedom Trail students will have the chance to visit the sites of the Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party as well as graves of famous American patriots such as Sam Adams and Paul Revere.

8 Math Connection At Fenway Park we will explore and discuss topics such as: Probability Pythagorean Theorem Statistics Need to remember the order of operations? Use the acronym, PEMDAS (Pedroia Excels Many Days At Second)

9 Science Connection Students will have the chance to visit hands-on exhibits that are related to the physical science topics presented in class: The Light House Physics in the Park Theater of Electricity Solar and Wind Wild Music

10 The Boston Museum of Fine Arts

11 While our curriculum is infused with art history aided by our Smartboards, there is truly nothing better than seeing great works of art in person! The Boston Museum of Fine Arts houses some of the most rare and important artistic treasures in the world. Our students will see an array of art from masters of American painting to the icons of Impressionism, from exquisite Asian scrolls to Egyptian mummies.

12 5:45 a.m.Arrive at the lower circle, check students’ bags and board the bus (Students on ART Trip must arrive at 5:15, as their bus will depart at 5:30!) 6:00 a.m. Depart NSMS for Boston! 11:00 a.m.Arrive in Boston. *Students will then divide according to their chaperone groups. 13 Itinerary: Thursday, May 31 P.M. Groups will come together for evening activities. 6:00 p.m. Dinner at Hard Rock Cafe 8:00 p.m. Bowling Party (Boston Bowl) 10:30 p.m.Lights out

14 Itinerary: Friday, June 1 7:00 a.m. Wake up calls 7:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast at hotel 9:15 a.m. Arrive at Plimoth Plantation 11:15 a.m. Explore Mayflower II and Plymouth Rock 1:00 p.m. Picnic Lunch 2:00 p.m.Busses depart for home 7:00 p.m. Estimated time of return to NSMS

15 What to bring… –CLOTHING: »Comfortable shoes (We’ll be doing A LOT of walking!) »Weather-appropriate attire »Extra socks »Sweater, sweatshirt and/or a jacket –Personal hygiene items (toothbrush, tooth paste, deodorant, etc.) –Spending money (suggested approx. $50)

16 What NOT to bring… Cell phones !!! Electronics of any kind Alcohol, cigarettes, drugs or any illegal paraphernalia Unapproved medications Expensive items such as jewelry or watches

17 Rules and Procedures SUPERVISION –Students must remain with their assigned chaperone at all times. –Students must stay in their own rooms; no visitation after “lights out.”

18 Safety & Security At the hotel, security measures will be taken to ensure the safety and well being of the students: Security will be on duty throughout the night until 5:00 A.M. One security agent will be present on each floor. Hotel room phones will be turned off.

19 Parents must come to Boston to pick up their child if he or she: –uses, buys or attempts to use or buy any drugs or alcohol. –is present anywhere other than his/her own room after “lights out.” –Engages in behavior that interferes with the safety of him or herself or others. Rules and Procedures

20 LUGGAGE –No alcohol, drugs or phones. Bags (and pockets) will be searched prior to leaving. –Don’t pack more than you can carry. –Suitcases will be left under the bus until we reach the hotel Thursday evening. –Have a small back pack for items needed during the day to take on the bus. 22 Permission Slip and Payment Due no later than Friday, January 13 Students who participated in the Innisbrook wrapping fundraiser have been notified of the price adjustments according to their sales.
