1 Raleigh Field Trip Chaperone Meeting April 23, 2014 4:30 pm

2 Tuesday Morning Reminders You must eat breakfast before you get here or once we board the bus. Be here at 6:00 AM inside the gym. Students must be signed in by a parent. Buses will leave at 6:30 AM No Exceptions!

3 Buses/Chaperone Cars Chaperones MAY NOT park in the lot in front of the school. Vehicles MUST be parked down the hill (next to the field by the playgrounds). Rose Transportation buses will pick-up and drop-off in the Bus Parking Lot.

4 What to Bring A jacket and comfortable walking shoes-best to dress in layers! (bus can be chilly) Camera and money for shopping-if you would like! $20 maximum Bag breakfast/lunch/dinner to eat on the bus in Raleigh in a disposable bag. NO ELECTRONICS Students are responsible for anything they bring.

5 Chaperone Guidelines It is your duty to see that each child in your group is accounted for at ALL times. Do not let a child from your group, or go anywhere without you— ESPECIALLY KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THEM WHILE GOING TO THE BATHROOMS! Remind students that they MUST be respectful at all times! Also, parents and students must abide by all the rules (just like in school) set forth by Rose Transportation & the buildings we visit in Raleigh. You will be responsible for monitoring a small group of children.

6 Rose Transportation to and from Raleigh We will begin boarding the bus at 6:20am. Restrooms are available on the buses for emergencies ONLY. Students must stay in their seats and are not permitted to walk around on the bus. Plastic bags are hung throughout the buses for trash collection. Glass bottles are not permitted. Movies will be shown to/from Raleigh.

7 Chaperone Guidelines cont. Remember you are a role model for our students. – No smoking will be allowed – No purchasing or consumption of alcoholic beverages will be permitted. – No use of inappropriate language. For the safety of our students, anyone who violates these rules will NOT be allowed to attend future school trips as a chaperone.

8 Basic Itinerary Sign in at BAC at 6:00 AM. Use restroom/meet with group/distribute nametags/get itinerary/board buses. Leave at 6:30am to Charlotte to Raleigh Arrive in 9:30am Secure lunches in storage area of the History Museum. Tour the Science and History Museums, along with the Legislative Building and Capitol Guided Tours. Tours end at 3:00pm. Use the restroom at your last destination. Board the buses at 3:15. Arrive back at Barringer at 6:30 PM.

9 Map of Down town Raleigh Once we arrive at the center, we will divide into groups to tour each facility separately. Our tours involve crossing streets, so please keep your students right beside you at all times. We will have lunch at the picnic tables between the Science and History museums.

10 Lunch Chaperones will collect their students’ lunches and put them in their Marshall’s bag. Bags will be stored in the History Museum until your lunch time. Each group will have a large garbage bag to dispose of their trash. Leftovers must be placed in the Marshall’s bag and carried by the chaperone.

13 NC Science Museum The items in the gift shops/cafe are somewhat expensive and shopping will require your complete attention to the students. If you choose to take your group, you will be responsible for their actions. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this, you are welcome to take your group of students outside to wait on the rest of the group.

14 NC History Museum The items in the History Museum gift shop are more reasonably priced. Please allow time for your group to tour this area prior to moving from the building. Please keep a close eye on their behavior. If you have a problem, please discuss it with your child’s teacher.

15 Legislative Building This is a Guided Tour. Please be ON TIME. Remind students to sit appropriately and use their manners. They will interact with this tour guide and we want to make sure we display scholarly behavior. (This is a good conversation to have with your group BEFORE you enter the building).

16 NC State Capitol This is a Guided Tour. Please be ON TIME and remind students of BAC scholarly behavior. No public restrooms are available at the State Capitol. You can take students for a walk around the building to see the various statues on display in Union Square.
