Tough times can lead to different reactions We can all experience different aspects of these reactions at times….

Tough times can lead to different reactions The QUESTION is: How Severe? How Persistent? Impact on Daily Life?

If so…. Then Counselling may help you overcome these difficult situations….

What is Counselling? Counselling is a process that focuses on enhancing the psychological well-being of the client, such that the client is then able to reach their full potential. This is achieved by the counsellor facilitating your personal growth, development, and self-understanding, which in turn empowers you to adopt more constructive life practices.

Benefits of Counselling… Feel better about yourself Feel more at peace, more comfortable, or more secure in the world Feel more successfully (and more joyfully) connected with others (including your spouse/partner) Reduce stress (which promotes physical health too)

Benefits of Counselling… Learn new behaviours and/or responses which can help you to achieve your goals. Establish ways and techniques for reaching your goals Understand your own thoughts, feelings, and responses better Work through problems with a skilled, and compassionate professional

Why talk to a Counsellor? Counsellors are different from friends and family They are outside your daily life They will not judge, criticise or make assumptions Neutral Only source of information about you is you

` concerns when thinking about counselling Does going to a counsellor mean I’m a failure? I don’t want to be reminded of how bad I feel I can sort my problems on my own No-one can understand how I feel I really must be in a bad way I don’t want to talk to a stranger Maybe I won’t like the counsellor It might make me worse It’s like saying I’m weak Once you start counselling it never ends Suppose I won’t know what to say? What would my friends think? I might get upset Counselling could get in the way of my studies If I go to counselling will it all be sorted? I feel ashamed of my problems

Counselling Process… The counsellor will listen attentively and try to understand things from your point of view. Your feelings will be respected, you will not be judged or criticised. They will sum up what you have been saying and check that they are understanding you correctly.

Counselling Process… If you have a specific problem the counsellor won’t tell you what to do, but will offer pointers and suggestions for possible ways forward. They can help you form a plan of action and support you whilst you make any changes.

Counselling Process… The session can be up to 1 hour long, so there is time to help you express what you are really feeling. You are entitled up to eight sessions, one per week – in some circumstances you may be able to attend for longer if you need it.

Counselling Process… The sessions are confidential which means that we will not talk to anyone about what you have said unless you or someone you know is at risk of serious harm.

Counselling Process… Counsellors work from differing theoretical approaches. Different counsellors will place varying levels of emphasis on behaviour, on thinking and/or on emotional aspects. All counsellors have the central goal to assist you in increasing your sense of well-being.
