I am very grateful for the Carers Team service. I do not generally feel valued as a carer by the government, but LCC has decided to do something about it, which is a step in the right direction. I feel valued and think the team must bring a lot of happiness to people. I really appreciate it. I would love to see some faces of the carers team, it would be nice to meet up or have a group session that her and her husband could go to I feel that I am not alone and that I am being cared for, if I feel down I know I can always pick up the phone I have had help from the Carer's Team … and I had my first holiday in 25 yrs and this made such a difference! I think the carers assessment process is one of the easiest I have gone through to get help. I was pleased that someone helps with doing the assessment as filling out application forms alone can be daunting

 I just wanted to pass on my thanks for the carer's assessment I had recently with Clare Parker. …. Thanks for:  Taking the time to sit and go through the assessment gave me the long overdue opportunity to face feelings and voice thoughts I've kept to myself for years. Her level of compassion and pragmatism was just right for me and made it easier to sit and go through it dispassionately, for the most, although it made uncomfortable reading as Clare predicted. I enjoyed the carers’ newsletters and have signed up for them. The emergency plan is a complete life saver as it has enabled me to set up support in a set course of action as opposed to coping and worrying once again when the chips are down.  When I tell people about the carers’ service I can speak with a bit more knowledge now, being on the receiving end. I recommend the service wholeheartedly to anyone, because you have someone to listen to you, so different to attending a support group as we’ve tried in the past. I have come out of it feeling better informed, acknowledged, valued and respected for what I do as a matter of course and as a result it has benefitted my family – changes are in process.  Priceless.

 Feedback from Care Quality Commission reflected positive improvements in Carer services - and below are some comments you may find useful:  " The council has progressed substantially in addressing issues of information for and engagement with carers in line with transformation plans. A specific approach to the needs of young carers has been established and carers now have much more developed support with a better range of options from which to choose. Other councils are looking at the approach developed by Lincolnshire as an exemplar  Progress with establishing Lincolnshire Carers Partnership and the Young Carers Partnership reflects a stronger degree of engagement with carers and improved assessments and provision for needs.  The carer’s partnership and young carers group have progressed well in 2008/2009 delivering positive outcomes for its carer membership, who have felt valued and recognised as a result of the co-production of strategies.

 `Touchstone’ Customer Survey – ongoing  Department of Health User Experience Survey of Carers (November 2009)  Quality Assurance feedback

Carers Are Healthy 75% of carers said the support they received made them feel better/healthier in themselves. “ I spent the carers personal budget on having a series of 8 therapeutic massages. I went once a week for 8 or 9 weeks, it was such a help in relieving stress ” “ A lot of pressure has been taken off me since having the carers assessment. I am now receiving help for my wife and have been put in touch with other organisations who are helpful ”

Carers are In Control 47% of carers said the support they received made them feel more in control over their lives “ Learnt through the assessment process that time out and hobbies are necessary ” “ I have been on courses to gain understanding which has made the carer feel more in control ”

Carers have a life of their own 42% of carers said the support they received made them feel that they had more of a life of their own. “ The assessment has given me the courage to go out one evening per week.
