5 Library, Learning & Information Services Te Ara Āwhina i te Mātauranga In-text citations Either: Hannum, Schmitz and Keen (2002, p. 107) argue that although chocolate cravings are very common… Or: Although chocolate cravings… affect women disproportionately (Hannum, Schmitz & Keen, 2002, p. 107).

(Ministry of Health, 2009, p. 15) If there is no company, use title of webpage eg. (“Pet”, 2009, p. 18)

If it doesn’t have page numbers, use paragraphs eg. (Smith, 2009, para. 4) What if there are heaps of paragraphs and I can’t count that high? If the webpage is very long but has sections, cite the section heading and the number of the paragraph you used: eg. (Cadbury, 2010, London Chocolate Houses section, para. 3)

13 Reference List Book (p. 12): Author’s surname, Author’s first initial. (Year of publication). Title in italics: Subtitle (# edition). City of publication, State of publication for US, Country of publication for outside US: Publisher. Website (p. 32): Author’s surname, Author’s first initial OR Company/Organisation that owns website. (Year that website was last updated). Title of webpage in italics. Date that you retrieved information from website, website name (if different from author), then state full address of website
