3 Clauses and Provisions All Clauses/ provisions start with 52.2 Supplemented with FAR Section Number Suffix is a “-” and a sequential clause number.

4 What’s a Prescription? Far clauses are required (prescribed) by law or regulation The FAR section that controls the use of or requirement for a clause or provision is the “prescription” for it The prescription for a clause that is Optional or “as required” shall be reviewed by the C.O. to determine if it should be included in the contract

5 Deviations Approved deviations to clauses may be used in lieu of the FAR clause Deviations will be titled as: –52.2xx-x Title Date (Deviation) Deviations shall be in full text and include prescription for their use.

7 Interpreting the Matrix Clause Number Prescribing Section (P)rovision or (C)lause Include by Reference Y/N –If Y may IBR or at CO Option include in full text. Uniform Contract Format Section Contract Types (F)ixed Price, (C)ost, T&M, Commercial, etc. –Required –As Applicable

8 Modifying Clauses/Provisions Many Provisions are “fill-in-the- blanks” to be completed by the offeror. Modification not authorized unless specifically addressed in FAR Alternate Clauses must be specified (e.g. Alternate 1)

9 Provisions / Clauses Automatically Included 52.252-1 used to list provisions included by reference 52.252-2 Used to identify clauses included by reference Etc. Clauses incorporated by reference have the same weight as if they were included in full text. If a clause/provision differs from that in the FAR (e.g., a supplemental requirement) it shall be identified as a deviation.
