8. History Originally built as botanical garden, modeled on Kew Gardens in England. Named after John Lawrence, Viceroy of India from 1864 to 1869. Present name: Bagh-e-Jinnah Earlier area: 176 acres. Present area: 141 acres.

15. Open Air Theatre The principal of Lahore’s Government College, Mr. Sondhi, contributed to the creation of an open air theatre where performances by the College dramatic society were often held. Sadequain used this place for a few years in the 1970s, in order to paint some of his great works. For decades, it has been the venue for the All Pakistan Music Conference, held in the spring air and the early winter.

16. Summing Up The park has managed to maintain its dream- like beauty for a century and a half. It is a pleasant and peaceful park, perfect for a leisurely walk or a picnic. It is a popular place with families to enjoy.
