3 Goal: Union Army to attack and gain control of Richmond the Confederate Capital.

4 June 25 to July 2, 1862 The Confederates forced the Union Army to retreat when they got close to Richmond – Lee saved Richmond for the Confederacy Several battles were fought over the 7 day period including; – Oak Grove – Confederate victory – Beaver Dam Creek – Union victory – Gaines’ Mill – Confederate victory – Garnett’s and Golding’s Farm – Union victory – Savages Station – Confederate victory, Union leaves behind much needed supplies – Glendale – draw – Malvern Hill – Bloody mess, union retreated

5 Impact End the campaign for Richmond made by the Union since the start of the war. – Reorganization of the Union command Lee saved the Confederacy – Confirmed that the war would not end quickly
