3. The Public Works Institute is a national training model that has been specifically developed for APWA chapters. The model has been designed to address the supervisory and management needs of current first- line supervisors and up.

4. Who is the Public Works Institute for? The Public Works Institute is for “current first-line supervisors and up” and “those aspiring to become leaders within the profession.”

5. Becoming an Institute Chapters only need to address the 10 core areas of study and provide a minimum of 90 educational classroom contact hours of instruction in order to be eligible for the National Certificate.

21. What is a CEU or a PDH? The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized method of quantifying the time spent in the classroom during professional development and training activities. The Professional Development Hour (PDH) is a term established by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in their “Continuing Professional Competency Guidelines.” CEU to PDH conversion formula: 0.1 CEU (1 hour of instruction) = 1 PDH 1.0 CEU (10 hours of instruction) = 10 PDHs
