1 Materials, Standards, and Technology Exploration
enVision Math Materials, Standards, and Technology Exploration This module is designed to introduce you to the enVision Math materials. In the next two to three hours, you will be organizing your enVision Math teaching materials, viewing videos and materials from the Pearson website, and examining how the DoDEA Mathematics Standards are supported with these materials.

2 Topic Goal Agenda for the Exploration Module Materials Exploration
Examine the materials and guides and learn how the program looks in the classroom Standards Explore how DoDEA Standards are taught through enVision Math Technology Exploration Explore the technology component of enVision Math At the end of today, you will be familiar with: the teacher and student resources that are available and how the materials are organized. how the DoDEA content and process standards may be taught using the enVision Math materials. digital resources that are available and how to access them.

3 How will enVision Math affect me?
My daily preparation My teaching Student learning Provide this question for participants to ponder and think about throughout the .5 training. If participants are anxious, chart concerns and questions to reflect on throughout the training. These could be charted or on sticky notes.

11 Understanding by Design (Ubd) Grant Wiggins
Instructional Model Essential Questions Big Ideas Backwards Design Transfer Understanding by Design (Ubd) Grant Wiggins • Stage 1: identify desired results of instruction • Stage 2: determine acceptable evidence • Stage 3: plan learning experiences and instruction The enVision Math program is based on an approach to unit planning called Understanding by Design. Now, let’s look at little closer at an instructional model that contributes to the success of the program—Understanding by Design. Understanding by Design, or UbD, was developed by Grant Wiggins. Who is Grant Wiggins? He is president of Authentic Education and is best known as a coauthor of the book Understanding by Design. Let’s take a few minutes to listen to Grant’s explanation of the basic principles of Understanding by Design. As you listen, reflect on the application of these principles in your own classroom. “We want students to understand…THE GOAL IS UNDERSTANDING not superficial knowledge.” –Grant Wiggins

12 Pacing Guide – Your School Day
The Pacing Guide – Your School Day is a flow chart that outlines and identifies the lesson components for daily instructional planning. Have teachers open to a lesson-as I explain each part, they should look for examples within their lesson of choice.

13 Pacing Guide – Your School Year
The Pacing Guide – Your School Year is a chart that outlines and identifies the topics for yearly instructional planning. The timeline shows 140 daily lessons, 20 additional days for assessment, and leaves a teacher with approximately 20 days to provide reinforcement and enrichment activities. Notice that the Topics are in different colors. Take a few minutes to locate a key that identifies the focus for each Topic area. NOTE: The DoDEA Math Standards do not include all of the topics included with enVision Math at some of the grade levels. A correlation document is being developed to assist teachers with this issue. A date on the release of this document has not been released at this time.

16 Summary In this module, we:
examined the materials and guides in order to learn how the program looks in the classroom learned about the Understanding by Design planning approach explored how DoDEA Mathematics Standards are taught through enVision Math explored the digital resources within enVision Math Say: This enVision Math module on half day training has provided a brief overview of the Grades 3-5 math adoption materials. You have been introduced to the Understanding by Design curricular planning approach for this series, as well as program organization, core program components, and technology. The full day training in the school year will be focusing on enVision Math instructional best practices. As you continue to investigate the components of enVision Math, familiarize yourself with materials that will support your continuing classroom math instruction.
