Understanding By Design: Integration of CTE and Core Content Curriculum Michael S. Gullett
NotesEntire program is Integrated Curriculum and Implementation of CTE Content/Curriculum with Core Content/Curriculum.Specific Unit for Assignment 1 of CTE 655Teacher In-Service prior to the Start of School2 Day In-Service with Teachers and Principals at a High School
Phase 1The entire implementation process through the Understanding by Design Framework will be to answer the Five Essential Questions. The Five Essential Questions addresses the Five Main Educational Topics in Educational Leadership. The Five Essential Questions and the answers to these Questions will drive the Desired Result per unit of the Understanding by Design.
Phase 1Each specific Question of the Five Essential Questions will drive a specific unit within the project of Integrated CTE Content/Curriculum and Core Content/Curriculum School Wide.Understanding by Design will drive the development, creation, and framework of each unit. The Understanding by Design is a Framework, and it will provide the process of Implementation.
Five Essential Questions What do students need to know and do? (Effective Curriculum)How will they learn it? (Effective Instruction)How will we know if they've learned it? (Effective Assessment)What will we do if they don't learn it? (Effective Interventions)What will we do if they already know it? (Effective Enrichment)

Unit 1 Notes Frist Essential Question of the Five What students need to know and do? Effective CurriculumDue to this program training teachers we will keep this essential question, because it will drive the professional development training and implementation of Integrated Curriculum.Student focus and the question being driven towards students is at the heart of the unit. However, the First Unit focuses on Teachers, Implementation, and Integration of Curriculum. Two Tracks: Effective Curriculum for Students and Effective Curriculum of Integration for Teachers to Implementation School Wide.
Unit 1: Effective Curriculum Unit 1 Focus around Effective Curriculum of IntegrationOur goal and objective is to focus on teacher training for the implementation of effective integrated curriculumTherefore, Unit 1 is the development of Integrated, Innovative, Creative Curriculum that Aligns CTE with Core Content through Teacher Professional Development Training and Collaboration for the Purpose of Implementation.
Understanding By Design Whole Project Overview, Units, and FrameworkBrainstorm
Understanding by Design Stage 1 Established GoalsDesired ResultsEstablished GoalsImplementation of a school model- school wide: Integrated CTE Content/Curriculum with Core ContentA model of educational excellence and successCTE and Core Content Class Integrate CurriculumTeacher Collaboration, Training, and ImplementationUnderstandings:Teachers will understand that:Through collaboration time and shared opportunities to work with other content areas that students will be exposed to the same content in more ways. More exposure means more ability to move from understanding to critical thinking.Integration and Implementation is Organic and Natural. Is model carried out and implemented through creative and innovative shared content can prepare students for career and college readiness.
Stage 1 Essential Questions Teachers Will Know What CTE and Core Content align? What CTE and Core Content Curriculum concepts overlap? What type of curriculum overlaps and aligns for different ways of learning and exposure for students? How might creative and innovative instruction assist in implementing integrated curriculum? How CTE and Core Content Align, Overlap, and Naturally fit within both courses? How to us collaboration time to work with another CTE or Content Teacher to develop integrated curriculum, innovative instruction, and implementation for more education exposure? How to create a school wide vision of integration, and to utilize collaboration to develop creative, innovative, and meaningful integration and implementation of duel CTE and Core Content?

Unit 1 Desired Results: Effective Curriculum Essential Question 1 “What do students need to do and know?”Understanding by Design, Unit 1 Essential Question:What do teachers need to do, know, and develop in Integrated Curriculum of CTE and Core Content to Achieve Effective, Engaging, Relevant, and Rigorous Curriculum for Students?
Unit 1 Effective Curriculum: Stage 1 of Understanding by Designs Established Goals:The development of innovative and creative integrated CTE and Core Content Curriculum that answers the first of the Five Essential Questions that focus on Students.Through collaboration teachers of CTE and Core Content will collaborate together and develop an integrated plan of curriculum that Aligns-Shared CTE and Core Content Curriculum.First days of professional develop prior to school address the program, vision, mission, integrated curriculum, method of process, and the development through collaboration.
Unit 1 and Stage 1 Established Goals The Vision of Integration CTE and Core Content CurriculumCommitment to CollaborationThe Process of Developing a Curriculum that Aligns CTE and Core Content through IntegrationYear long processEasy collaborative process to develop integrated curriculumEnd results student exposed to same content in different ways, which equals a higher critical thinking knowledgeUnit 1 is all about Introduction into the Program Design and Desired Student OutcomesShared time for Teachers to work together to share in the creation of an innovative and creative integrated curriculumTeacher Understand the Engagement, Relevant, Rigorous Integrated Curriculum that is easy to develop and create through collaboration
Unit 1 Effective Teacher Curriculum for Student Curriculum Unit 1 Essential Questions:What do teachers need to do, know, and develop in Integrated Curriculum of CTE and Core Content to Achieve Effective, Engaging, Relevant, and Rigorous Curriculum for Students? What needs to taught to Teachers in the process of Implementation of Integrated CTE and Core Content Curriculum? How will the Unit 1 training develop a relevant and rigorous process for Teachers to collaborative create Engagement and Rigorous Integrated Curriculum for students?
Unit 1 Effective Curriculum and Understanding by Design Stage 1 Established GoalsUnderstandingsTeachers of CTE and Core Contents will collaborate in small groups to develop Integrated CTE and Core Content CurriculumTeachers will develop a process plan for Implementation of Integrated CTE and Core Content CurriculumTeachers through collaboration develop innovative and creative curriculumTeachers will understand:The Vision, Mission, and Philosophy of Integrated Curriculum Program. The small group collaborative process of developing Integrated Curriculum and dual teaching, instruction, projects, and content curriculumThe implementation of Integrated CTE and Core Content Curriculum
