To look after its national interest, a nation must have power—valuable natural resources, military strength, strong economies Nationalism—people within a nation often feel a sense of nationalism—a pride in their shared history and a loyalty to their nation.

4. Economic Development When people describe the nations of the world today, they often divide them into two groups—developed and developing These two groups differ mainly in their standard of living—the number and kinds of goods and services people can have.

5. The Developed World The developed nations are all heavily industrialized. They depend on factories and modern technology to turn out a wide range of goods and services. Most citizens live in towns or cities, and many of them work in service jobs. Developed nations—20% of world population, ¾ of world’s annual income

6. The Developing World Most people in the developing world are poor. Some developing nations do not have enough jobs. Many developing nations are unable to provide education

7. Economic Development The poorer nations are working to develop their economies. They have been aided by developed nations. There are also international organizations concerned with economic development in poor countries.
