9 Career Development Coordinators Responsibilities
Create or continue process of using CFNC.org Implementation of a 4-6 year plan for students Promote job shadowing and career exploration activities for high school students Work with other Student Support Services Team members to support students in their career development Help students evaluate appropriate high school classes to maximize their learning and skill attainment while in high school

10 Labor Market Projections
Skilled Laborers are needed in current job market! Two-year degree earners make more than some individuals with Bachelors and Masters degrees. Many students graduating from a four-year college have trouble finding a job, while two-year college graduates have a job before graduation.

WorkKeys assessments measure “real world” workplace skills critical to job success. These skills are valuable for any occupation—skilled or professional—at any level of education, and in any industry. More than 10 million WorkKeys assessments have been administered.

13 Certification Certify abilities The NCRC™ is a credential that is:
Evidence-based Industry-recognized Portable Used to document essential skills linked to workplace success Awarded at four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum Emphasize recognition across industry and the portability of certificate. Gives students credibility when applying for jobs

14 Articulated Credits North Carolina High School to Community College Articulation Agreement. To receive articulated credit, students must enroll at the community college within two years of their school graduation date and meet the following criteria: Final grade of B or higher in the course, and A score of 93, or higher, on the standardized CTE post-assessment.

17 Accepting applications beginning in December 2014
Current freshman and sophomores Students will be fast-tracked through their general high school courses to maximize time for college level courses Two areas: Nursing Assistant and Medical Assisting

18 Career Awareness Fairs
Held at all high schools (including STAR Academy) in the fall of the year Attended by students during their Sophomore year

19 Career Awareness Presentations
Presentations are made to the Senior English classes at all high schools to cover: Professional dress Interviewing skills “Soft Skills” that employers see are lacking in today’s workforce

20 Career Exploration Activities
Workshops/Seminars that have been made available to students in the high schools in the following areas: Criminal Justice Health Sciences (in conjunction with local hospitals) Laser and Photonics Radio Broadcasting Manufacturing

21 Job Shadowing Spend a day with a professional in the community
Students are not counted absent from school Open to all students in Harnett County High Schools Over 400 job shadowing opportunities during

22 Harnett Youth Apprenticeship Program
Focus on Manufacturing In conjunction with CCCC and local manufacturing business and industry Applications will be accepted beginning December 2014 Target Group: Current juniors

23 Internships HCS has networked with local businesses and industries to establish internship opportunities for juniors and seniors in our high schools. Several students participated in internships this summer at the following businesses: Harnett Health Harnett County Sheriff's Department Erwin Police Department Harnett County Schools Seed Planters Academic Learning Center

24 Helping students become Career and College Ready
Full-time Career Development Coordinators at each high school Full-time Career and College Advisors at each high school Education of the importance of students having a concentration in a “Career Cluster” Curriculum presentations being implemented by CDC’s in 9th and 11th grade
