2. Where in the body can the anterior pituitary gland be located?
The pituitary gland is a pea-sized structure located at the base of the brain, just below the hypothalamus and attached to it by nerve fibers. It is part of the endocrine system and produces hormones which control other glands as well as various bodily functions

3. What hormones and types of hormones does the anterior pituitary gland produce?
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH),mGrowth hormone (GH), Luteinizing hormone (LH), Prolactin, Thyroid-stimulating hormone

4. What affect do these hormones have on the human body?
ACTH stimulates the adrenal glands to produce hormones, FSH works with LH to ensure normal functioning of the ovaries and testes, GH is essential in early years to maintaining a healthy body composition and for growth in children. In adults, it aids healthy bone and muscle mass and affects fat distribution, LH works with FSH to ensure normal functioning of the ovaries and testes, Prolactin stimulates breast milk production, stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete thyroid hormones.

5. What happens if the anterior pituitary does not function properly?
Hypersecretion: Too much of any hormone in the body is caused by a secretory pituitary tumor.
Hyposecretion: Too little of any hormone in the body can be caused by a large pituitary tumor, which interferes with the pituitary gland’s ability to produce hormones. Hyposecretion can also result from surgery or radiation of a tumor.

6. What can be done medically to correct the problems of the anterior pituitary not functioning properly?
The tumor can be removed or you can take artificial growth hormones if you’re not producing enough.
