Carrier Comfort Network (CCN) is a controls concept that consist of Carrier control products and Carrier equipment that are stand alone as well as designed to function together on a Digital Control System. 6/28/98 CCN_BUS

CCN Carrier Comfort Network - Carrier protocol communication system CCS Carrier Comfort Systems - Family of communicating Stat’s (Temp for single zone and VVT for multi zone) FID Field Installed Device - General purpose field programable controller. 1600/6400 Carrier Comfort Controllers (new style FID’s) PIC Product Installed Controls - Factory installed and programed equipment specific controllers. CIO Communications Input / Output Devices Repeater Used to clean and amplify the CCN sign or as a protocol converter from RS 485 to RS 232 bus signals. Temp(T) A single zone stat with an internal clock. MS VVT Monitor Stat with out an internal clock for multi zone applications. MS(T) VVT Monitor Stat with an internal clock for multi zone applications. BC VVT Bypass Control device for pressure control in multi zone applications. 13 CCN BUS ARCHITECTURE The Key to the CCN BUS is Addressing:
An address is required of all devices on the bus. No two devices on the same CCN system may ever have the same address. A CCN and CCS address consists of a 3 digit bus number and a 3 digit device number. 6/28/98 CCN_BUS

14 CCN BUS ARCHITECTURE CCN BUS is Addressing:
Example Address: ( 024 , 127) Bus Number Device Number Legal bus numbers are 0 to 239 inclusive The primary bus number is always “0” Secondary bus numbers are 1 to 239 inclusive. Legal device numbers are 1 to 239 inclusive. A repeater module and NAM configured to work with a computer are not addressed. 6/28/98 CCN_BUS

15 CCN BUS TEMP SIMPLE TEMP BUS TEMP(T) BUS NUMBER ELEMENT NUMBER Addressing TEMP Devices Addressing TEMP Devices For a simple and multiple TEMP system, the only addressing rule is to never duplicate addresses. For a simple TEMP and multiple TEMP system, bus communication is at a minimum, and therefore usually a single bus is sufficient. 6/28/98 CCN_BUS

16 Zone controllers must be addressed below the bypass controller.
CCN BUS Addressing VVT Devices ZC SIMPLE VVT BUS BC MS(T) BUS NUMBER ELEMENT NUMBER For a simple and multiple VVT system, the only addressing rule is to never duplicate addresses. The bypass controller MUST be addresses one less than the monitor stat. Zone controllers must be addressed below the bypass controller. 6/28/98 CCN_BUS

27 Broadcast Communications Rules
CCN BUS ARCHITECTURE Broadcast Communications Rules Many CCN devices may broadcast information over the network such as time of day or point values like outdoor air temperature, or relative humidity. Broadcast information is sent (or made available) to all Network Devices. Every BUS should have one device configures as a the “Broadcast Acknowledger” The Broadcast Acknowledger acts as a spokes person for the entire Bus by acknowledging back to the sender that a successful broadcast was received. Time broadcastor’s send their internal clock time and holiday status twice a day at 1:00 AM and 1:00 PM, as well as when requested to send time by another Network Device. 6/28/98 CCN_BUS
