By Serena, Lydia Block: B

Introduction Alkaline dry cell(alkaline battery): a type of dry cell dependent upon the reaction between zinc and manganese dioxide (Zn/MnO 2 ). The origination of its name: the electrolyte(KOH) is alkaline its non-fluid electrolyte

The half-reaction are: Anode: Zn (s) + 2OH − (aq) → ZnO (s) + H 2 O (l) + 2e − Cathode: 2MnO 2(s) + H 2 O (l) + 2e − → Mn 2 O 3(s) + 2OH − (aq)

In the earth 80% of manufactured batteries in the US 46% of all primary battery sales in Japan 68% of all battery sales in Switzerland 60% of all battery sales in the UK 47% of all battery sales in the EU 20% of all battery sales in China

Product Common battery A rechargeable battery Detector

Common used toys (robots and cars ) remotes wall clocks other light duty household items radios photo-flash applications watches high-drain applications camera Interphone Razor Alarm Calculator Hearing aids … The best choice for your gadget!!!

Advantages of an Alkaline Battery Chemical Composition  Electrolyte: a basic KOH paste(alkaline electrolyte)  Anode : zinc powder provides greater surface area

Advantages of an Alkaline Battery Capacity  The use of an alkaline compound more energy.  Produce 500-700 percent more power

Advantages of an Alkaline Battery Shelf Life  No voltage drop  Ability to store for a long period of time.  10 times longer than common dry cell.

Advantages of an Alkaline Battery Performance in Different Environments  Ability to be used in different temperatures.  Common dry cell: 0 to 160 degrees  Alkaline Battery: as low as -20 degrees

Disadvantages of an Alkaline Battery Cost  More expensive than common dry cell

How to recognize the carbon-zinc battery and alkaline battery in your daily life? Appearance (more beautiful and better design) Touch (notch on the bottom) Weight (alkaline battery 23g ; carbon-zinc battery 15g) Sign (AR; LR)
