My media story Seanan Martin

Major news event One of the major news events that had me hooked, would have to be the school shooting in Connecticut, America. Where a gun man shot and killed twenty children and six adults in a primary school. There was vast news coverage of this event all around the world, this is not the first mass school shooting that I have watched on the news, but it is certainly the most memorable to me. One of the reasons that this news story kept me hooked was the story of what happened inside the school, where a teacher hid her pupils andwas willing to give up her own life in order to save them. This story was covered on every news platform available, ranging from live news to even social media news, such as facebook and twitter.

Major news event “Our hearts are broken today, for the parents, grandparents, sisters and brothers of these children” Barack Obama. US President I first heard of this news event, while watching the BBC’s coverage of it, then I read further information about this on an online news article on the BBC’s website. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-20730717 (this is a link to article that I read)

Major news event The BBC is the channel, website and mobile app that I use to find out any current news events, whether they are local or international. Thee BBC channel has always been the main news broadcast that I have watched or listened to. BBC Television is a service of the British Broadcasting Corporation. The corporation, which has operated in the United Kingdom under the terms of a Royal charter since 1927, has produced television programmes from its own studios since 1932, although the start of its regular service of television broadcasts is dated to 2 November 1936. The domestic TV BBC television channels are broadcast without any commercial advertising and collectively they account for more than 30% of all UK viewing. Their services are funded by the television licence. The BBC operates several television networks, television and related programming services in the United Kingdom. As well as being a broadcaster, the corporation also produces a large number of its own programmes in-house, thereby ranking as one of the world's largest television production companies.

BBC news There are now new and improved was in which to read or watch the news, BBC has embraced these new changes and brought out their own options for viewers, such as: -BBC Iplayer- This is a downloadable app, which can be downloaded onto smart phones, tablets and other devices. The user of this app can catch up on any tv or news programmes that they have missed, and they can also use this app on the go. -BBC news- This is also a downloadable app, with this app the user can be kept up to date with all of the recent news on the go. Both of these apps are free to download.

BBC ownership Model The BBC is an independent body which is held in trust for the British people. The BBC was most recently given a ten- year royal charter in 2006 that defines its purposes and allows it to act somewhat autonomously, free from commercial and government influence. Control rests with the 12-person BBC Trust, which replaced the Board of Governors in 2007. Trust members are paid and are appointed by the British prime minister and are supposed to represent the interests of a broad cross-section of the British listening and viewing public. Day-to-day management is handled by the board of management, headed by the director general; its members are appointed by the board of governors.

Technology innovation The technology innovation that I have embraced would have to be the smart phone, with the smart phone you have the world at your finger tips. The main reasons why I embraced the smart phone would be: -Social networking- The smart phone gives the user the ability to access any social network site they choose. -Taking Photo’s- Most up to date smart phones have a great camera and a large amount of storage space which is great for taking pictures. -Browsing- the smart phone has pre-installed internet browser, which allows the user to browse the web on their phone. -Apps- the smart phone allows it users to download a wide variety of different apps onto the device. Including news apps, where the reading and watching the latest news updates are available.

Technology innovations

Personal media friend platform The media platform that I use the most would have to be facebook, I have the app downloaded onto my phone and it is easily accessible. The three main reasons why I use facebook are: -contact- Facebook is a great easy way to keep in contact with family and friends using their messenger, you can also look at their profile and see their status updates and pictures of things they have been doing and events that they have attended. -Sharing photos and information- Facebook is a great way to share your pictures and information such as new news articles with family and friends -News- I am able to ‘Like’ all of the Facebook pages of my favourite blogs, companies, and websites and then all of their updates appear in my newsfeed all in one place.
