2 Drugs Content Area  Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Subtopic Area  Students will analyze statistics related to drugs  Students will become more familiar with drug names / terms

3 National Standards Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health (standard 1) Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks (standard 4)

4 Behavioral Objectives Students will match common legal and illegal drugs with slang names and classifications Students will analyze how the perceptions of norms influence healthy and unhealthy behaviors Students will predict, estimate, infer, and evaluate data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey Students will analyze personal susceptibility to injury, illness, or death if engaging in unhealthy behaviors

5 Materials Current drug and alcohol statistics Agree & disagree signs Paper plates  Labeled with drug names, slang terms, and drug categories

6 Procedures (1 st Activity) 1. Flip your paper plate over 2. Walk around the classroom with your word facing out 3. Find a match! 4. Keep in mind that there are many ways to make a match: 1. Similar drugs 2. Drugs within a category 3. Slang name and proper name

7 Procedures Once you found your match, discuss why you are paired Be prepared to share with the class!  With this activity, we can evaluate current knowledge about drug terms

8 Procedure (2 nd Activity) In your team (designated by the color on your plate) form a circle Designate a leader to hold up either the agree and disagree sign Be sure you can explain why you picked your answer!  With this activity, we can evaluate current knowledge about drug facts
