Advantages of PowerPoint Great tool for visual communication in class or for review Easy to use Facilitates interactive lectures Makes good handouts and or overheads if a computer is not available Main Disadvantage Files are too large and take to long to download when published on the Web George Emerson uses his PowerPoint presentations in class and then gives extra credit for a student to take notes during his lectures for each different slide. After reviewing the notes, he copies them into this note section for the appropriate slide. He then Chooses Save for Web and posts to his WebCT class. The notes provide information for students to review. He also uses the annotated PowerPoint pages in his fully online class.

Hands-On Projects Games Active learning techniques can be incorporated into a PowerPoint Workshop: InterActive Classroom Techniques Involving Senses Questions Active learning is a method of educating students that allows them to participate in class. It takes them beyond the role of passive listener and note taker and allows the student to take some direction and initiative during the class. The role of the teacher is to lecturer less and instead direct the students in directions that will allow the students to "discover" the material as they work with other students to understand the curriculum. Active learning can encompass a variety of techniques that include small group discussion, role playing, hands-on projects, and teacher driven questioning. The goal is to bring students into the process of their own education. Small Group Discussions & Collaborative Projects Learning is more than just pouring information into someone’s head Active learning Involving the senses Creating opportunities to group process Games
