4. Neal Calder Neal Calder was the main character in my book “Fear On Ice”. He played hockey for the University of Denver before signing a pro contract with the Boston Bruins minor league team. He was easily the best player on the ice in every game and has amazing skill with the puck. Neal has a wife named Amy, and later on in the book she becomes best friends with one of Neal’s teammates, wives. Finally, to end the story, Neal Calder gets called up to play for the Boston Bruins. A perfect ending for such a great hockey player.

5. Eddie Blair Eddie Blair was one of the main characters in the book. He has been playing hockey for a team called the Oakland Traders his whole career and they are the Boston Bruins minor league team. When Neal Calder goes to the tryout, his only job is to put him in the hospital. He was the “goon” on the team, and that’s it. Next to no skill with the puck but he was very physical and hard to play against.

6. Summary Page Fear On Ice is a book about a young 22 year old kid named Neal Calder. He just got signed to play pro hockey after having a very successful University career. Everybody on the Oakland Traders hockey team know that one returning player wont be coming back so everyone tries to put on Neal Calder so he wont make the team. In the end, Neal easily makes the team. Calder and Eddie Blair are a defence pairing and don’t like each other at all, but later on in the book they begin to bond. After Oakland finishes the season with a 59-7-4 record giving them first place, Eddie Blair gets traded to the second place team, L.A Lions. After the Traders, and Lions make it to the finals against each other, the Traders win the Gilbert Cup easily winning the series in 6 games. At the end of the season, Eddie Blair retires for good, and Neal Calder gets called up to play for the Boston Bruins next season.

7. Likes and Dislikes I have many likes for this book. Like how the main character is so good at hockey, they describe every detail he does. He is also a tough guy, Calder is the best player offensively and physically. He can fight when he has to, throw a big hit, pretty much do anything you need him to do. The only dislike I had about this book was that Eddie Blair got traded at the end of the season, it ruined the whole ending for me.

Icing: When a player shoots the puck all the way down the ice when behind center ice. – The Seattle Barrons are called for icing. Bar Down: The process in which the player shoots the puck and then hits the crossbar and goes straight into the net. Clapper: Another word for “slap shot”. –Eddie Blair goes bar down for the game winner. Dangle: The physical movement of the puck where the opposing player moves the puck around you, making you look stupid. –Neal Calder with a filthy dangle. Celly: Another word for “celebration” when a player scores a goal, they celly. –Celly hard Oakland, you deserved this win.

9. Letter Page Getting signed to a pro contract was the first main event that happened in the story, without Neal getting signed, the whole story wouldn’t have made sense. Calder and Blair hating each other to start the story and then ending up having to play on the same defence line, forces them to bond and be friends. In the end when Calder and the Traders, defeat Blair and the Lions, after Blair got traded to them at the end of the season. Calder then went to play in the NHL.

10. Lesson Learned The theme of my book is Canadian Identity. The theme is based on how most Canadians love hockey, and hockey is a very popular sport in Canada. I didn’t really learn a lesson from this book unfortunately. I guess if you want to make it far in hockey, you just have to keep trying your best, and put in the effort.

11. Back Review Page This was a very good book to read. I would recommended it to any hockey fans out there, because the way the author describes the detail, its very descriptive and easy to understand. The story line for this book is really good and always keeps the reader entertained. Well written novel.

12. My Title for the Story If I could have changed the title to anything I wanted it would've probably been, fear on land. His teammates in the beginning try to jump him, and break his leg but the fight gets broken up right away before anything happened. I don’t think Neal Calder feared anyone one ice because he’s too solid. But if he were to get jumped, he would fear on land. It just makes more since to me even though it sounds dumber.

Free Page I think Earle Rice Jr. should make a second book for this only this time Neal Calder will be at the end of his career and there will be a new all-star trying out for the team only he’s really cocky and rude, and Calder teaches him to smarten up, and shows him ways to better his game to make him the next elite nhl prospect.
