3  Wide variety of books appeal to a variety of interests and span a range of grade levels.  Felt board and story characters for storytelling and organizing puppet presentations, engage children in demonstrating knowledge of story sequence, structure, classifying details, predicting outcomes, and interpreting text.  Literacy in play.  Provide opportunities for children to participate in collaborative and independent reading.  Read to children in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.

5  Encourages children to make a choice about literacy tasks.  Involves multiple modalities for literacy skills such as combining traditional activities that use paper, pencil, drama, and graphic arts.  Activities are differentiated so that all students can do the activities.  Provide opportunities for children to participate in collaborative and independent reading and writing.  Provide time for students to role-play, use puppets, and retell their stories. (Share writing with peers and discuss each others work.)  Write in a wide range of genres, such as poems and stories, functional texts, digital texts narrative texts, and expository texts.
